What is the Welsh #BasicIncome Pilot?

In July 2022 the @WelshGovernment launched the Basic Income for Care Leavers in Wales Pilot. It offers £1,600 (pre-tax) a month for 2 years to eligible care leavers who turn 18 between July 2022 and June 2023 -
Participation in the pilot is voluntary and unconditional, those taking part will also receive individual advice and support to help them manage their finances and develop their financial and budgeting skills

The #BasicIncome pilot will be closely monitored, & the evaluation being undertaken by @CASCADEresearch & partners will look at both the impacts as the pilot is underway, as well the impact it might have on the wellbeing, financial security, & life chances of the pilot group.
The #BasicIncome pilot evaluation consists of a multi-institutional team led by @CASCADEresearch, and includes academics from @KingsCollegeLon, @UniofOxford, @UniOfYork, @NorthumbriaUni and @homelessimpact: cascadewales.org/cardiff-univer…

In her latest blog, @AmandaHillDixon explores the link between our work on alleviating #poverty and #BasicIncome, and its potential benefits in removing barriers to take-up and reducing the stigma associated with means-tested #benefits: wcpp.org.uk/commentary/wha… Image shows an illustration of a woman holding her head in h
