The Department of Justice has finally taken on True the Vote, the right-wing group behind the wrongful challenge of hundreds of thousands of legal Georgia voters.
True the Vote's challenges were the subject of our film Vigilante. Stream it for FREE: VigilanteMovie.com
I know what you’re thinking: Why did Justice sue two weeks AFTER the #GeorgiaRunoff election?
We held special voter impact showings from Coffee County to Gwinnett to Valdosta. Crucially, we confronted and exposed True the Vote’s agents, every one a Republican official, scaring them away from further challenges.
Under a law, #SB202, signed last year by Gov. #BrianKemp, any Georgian, any self-proclaimed vigilante vote hunter, can challenge the counting of another voters’ ballot — allowing, for the first time, challenges “without limit.” gregpalast.com/kemp-deputized…
And by “without limit,” I mean unlimited. GOP official and Trump acolyte Pam Reardon challenged 32,000 voters.
Columbus, Georgia, Republican Party chairman Alton Russell challenged 4,000 voters — including blocking the vote of Maj. Gamaliel Turner, a career military consultant. Maj. Turner, you need not ask, is African-American.
The Justice Department, I admit, is not taking on the True the Vote gang in the most aggressive manner. They are simply joining in the suit already brought against True the Vote by Fair Fight Georgia, the group founded by Stacey Abrams. democracydocket.com/news-alerts/do…
I would hope the DOJ will take the advice of @AttorneyGriggs, President of the @Georgia_NAACP, who told me these vigilantes need to face individual justice, or at least a civil suit, including under the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871. gregpalast.com/dept-of-justic…
It’s amazing the way losing your bank account (or a little time in the pen) can focus the mind.
Here is Major Gamaliel Turner, who was challenged by True the Vote. He fought back—and won. We even filmed him confronting the vigilante face to face. That took some guts. VigilanteMovie.com
True the Vote is also the group behind the film 2000 Mules, released by Donald Trump from Mar-a-Lago last year, that purported to show Black men stuffing ballot boxes. gregpalast.com/2000-mules-bel…
The Trump/True the Vote campaign was extremely successful, pushing Georgia to all-but-eliminate voting dropboxes — a principal means of voting used by African-Americans in Atlanta. gregpalast.com/mail-in-ballot…
In Vigilante, we rip apart True the Vote’s voter fraud claims. Then we hunt down the source of their funding to right-wing billionaires, the Bradley Family. The Bradley’s foundation is run by Cleta Mitchell, who was subpoenaed by Congress for her role in the Jan 6 insurrection.
Watch Vigilante for no charge, through New Year’s Day.

A "record turnout" in Georgia? Not quite. A one-million-vote nose-dive in turnout for the Runoff was well-concealed by GOP Gov. Brian Kemp to cover up the effects of “Jim Crow 2.O” at the launch his presidential campaign. gregpalast.com/record-turnout…
From the New York Times to the Wall Street Journal, math-challenged reporters have repeated the completely upside-down fable of a “record turnout” in the Georgia Runoff. But the official count shows the turnout fell by a breathtaking one-million votes. gregpalast.com/record-turnout…
Facts matter. The faux “record turnout” is used by Republican pols to discredit the grossly partisan and racially poisonous effects of #SB202, the law signed last year by Georgia’s Gov. Brian Kemp that the NAACP dubs “Jim Crow 2.0.” gregpalast.com/mail-in-ballot…
The Wall Street Journal has just endorsed Governor #BrianKemp for president. And the New York Times has also virtually endorsed Kemp as the proper nominee for the Republican Party. This is the guy who created and signed #SB202, or as the NAACP calls it, Jim Crow 2.0!
I'm in Douglas, Georgia, an hour and a half from nowhere, where you are greeted with Confederate flags at the town entrance. I’m here for Olivia Pearson, the first Black city commissioner.
Olivia Pearson was arrested by #BrianKemp for supposed vote interference, that is, helping disabled voters. Even a white jury threw it out in minutes.
The people we spoke to in #Atlanta told us that the lines have tripled, not because of higher voting but because it was a practical impossibility under the new law to mail in your ballot. #SB202gregpalast.com/raphael-warnoc…
From the 2020/2021 elections to November 2022, mail-in ballots in #Georgia plummeted by over 1 million, a breathtaking 81% loss of ballots — concentrated in Black-majority urban counties. gregpalast.com/mail-in-ballot…
So, within weeks of his victory, the Republicans in the Georgia legislature changed the law making it all but illegal to vote by mail in a runoff election. gregpalast.com/raphael-warnoc…
BREAKING: Cheryl Moses, editor of @BlkGwinnett Magazine, teamed with the Palast Fund to file a formal complaint with the US Dept of Justice Civil Rights Division. The legal action demands the reversal of severe restrictions on dropboxes in Georgia. #gapolgregpalast.com/justice-dept-t…
Last week, our investigations team reported what media missed: the number of mail-in votes in #Georgia plummeted by 83%, by over one million ballots since the last Election — almost all lost in the non-white majority Atlanta counties. gregpalast.com/mail-in-ballot…
Did it make a difference? You bet: Two out of three Georgia mail-in ballots vote Democratic.
