Another glimpse into NIH RECOVER study. This also means more data for Yale LISTEN study as they use @hugohealth @kindred_health to gather medical records. I’m learning a lot about what is capturing effective data & what is missed. My case made researchers aware of gaps.#LongCOVID
2/ during the 6 minute walk test, they realize @NIH provided no space for notes or to identify gait. Within 3 minutes, they noticed me tipping, gait instability (when I noted vision and burning pain in my head and nausea). None of that is captured. Yet, exertion amplified neuro
3/ This has been common - she said it looked like a stroke. Exercise stress test said I looked like altitude sickness from high elevation mountain climbers. Both witnessed changes in speech. NIH data collection doesn’t allow for capturing these crucial puzzle pieces in their data
4/ I triggered the vision test last time, that was only comprised of single eye, eye chart. They told me I had 20/15 vision. That’s not my problem. No change in acuity. My vision presents like a TBI patient captured on computerized testing, lost peripheral vision, increased blind
5/ spot, problems with teaming, vergence, fixation, saccades, visual midline shift, and other major vision changes also. Yet, there is nowhere for @NIH RECOVER study to capture this crucial data. Instead, during analysis it will present as better than ideal vision, 20/15, with
6/ one eye at a time. When signals aren’t being transmitted normally from the brain to both eyes, it’s like a movie where mouth and sound are out of sync. It causes major problems with daily function. @NIH is missing important data for the vascular & neurological components
7/ Analysis of data is only as good as the data you collect. Here’s where it can become problematic: If only data is captured that ruled out underlying conditions, and fails to capture new neurological or vascular changes, it will appear #LongCOVID has no basis in biomarkers.
8/ for a novel condition, it is a major loss to fail to include a space for notes or data that emerges that did not exist at the time of the study design. There exist test that capture data, scalable options, from qEEG @wavimedical to @righteyeinsight that provide quantitative
9/ data that provide insights that are being lost in the absence of correct measurement, based in a lack of understanding mechanisms. This is why #TranslationalScience is so important to include #citizenscience, to fill in the gaps that science can’t see yet in #LongCOVID
10/ include a space for notes, for unexpected data that emerges, because without it, there is no chance to identify emerging patterns in data. They will be a massive lost opportunity for #LongCOVID advancement.
For those asking, I talked about more vision details here, and showed abnormalities in brain SPECT. I’ve learned a lot since this interview:

Yes, vision then verbal speech impact are both happening to people with post virus & vaccine.

For those stating that vaccine adverse data is incorrect in VAERS, here is the explanation from VAERS I received a few minutes ago. The public and researchers are not allowed access to verified or additional documentation confirming severe adverse events, including disability🧵
2/ Why does this matter? When researchers make valiant attempts to capture safety signals, all they have to go on is an initial report that does not include follow, evidence of verification, or corrections to reports that have been incorrectly inputted. For example, mine states
3/ publicly that I am not disabled, that there was no life threatening event, despite medical records confirming anaphylaxis (defined by CDC as a life-threatening event), and medical disability for over 21 months, with verified abnormal brain imaging, vision damage, vestibular

I was assured that an adverse event report was made on my behalf at the time of injection. VAERS could not locate it when I requested. King County provided me a number that they said was mine, but it goes to a report in 2009, a male in New Jersey. In 20+ months, no evidence. 🧵
2/ accurate reporting of severe adverse events is crucial to science. Why? Analysis is only as good as data collected. When data is omitted, analysis cannot be correct. When data is not collected, things like this occur & it undermines trust in science nbcnews.com/health/womens-…
3/ in addition, EUA mandates certain type of reporting to capture safety signals and analyze. This is not optional. Yet, it is not being done, and in 20+ months of requesting, @KingCountyWA is still unable to provide documentation of meeting mandatory requirements.

This photo came up in my memories. This day, before brain injury, I could walk in heels, look at my phone, with a computer bag on my shoulder with a bustling NY around me and still focus and balance. I didn’t appreciate how much my brain was processing in that moment. #LongCOVID Image
2/ For me, wearing heels, balance, was nothing. I danced and taught dance. I called out left and right for people who I was mirroring, and now, with verified parietal lobe damage, left-right confusion is real. Tell me to raid my left hand and my right goes up. I’m not medically..
3/ cleared to even /try/ low heels yet. I asked vestibular & physical therapist. After 19 mths of rehabilitation, I am starting to handle stairs without assistance all the time. I still need noise-canceling and binasal occlusion. Movement of bustling crowds ⬆️nausea + dizziness

As a school leader, I followed Public Health - Seattle & King County guidelines. This included the statement of needing to get all school staff vaccinated by the end of March 2021 in the message dated March 4, 2021. The opening: "This is an exciting - but also confusing - time"🧵 ImageImage
2/ those of us who took these messages very seriously and followed to protect others, to "prevent transmission" to our students, their families, reduce burdens on frontline medical professionals, and those of us who were crucial in modeling and leading new innovations in #Science
3/ there is now a chance to stand by us, to stand with us when we were on the front lines serving the community during a pandemic, those agencies who can, are trying to deny frontline worker status or the date vaccination was received and "did you really need it then" - why?

Resuming HBOT.

nature.com/articles/s4159… @Nature

Earlier today, SpO2 dropped to 74% stayed until I stopped moving. HBOT 10 min later. SpO2 increased to 100%, stayed high. I’m headed to try to walk an hour later to see if SpO2 drops again or stays stable. #LongCovid #medtwitter Image
2/ I started trying to get pulmonary function test in 8/22 based on tracking SpO2 drops w movement & ⬆️ neuro sx. Earliest I’ve been told I can get in is 1/23 (5 mth wait). Supp Oxygen & HBOT decreases symptoms. Insurance needs to cover @WA_OIC #LongCovid

3/ walking looks like this 10/8/22

Often, stopping movement, SpO2 ⬆️. When I start moving again SpO2 ⬇️. Video clips show range. Hiccups when ⬇️.
Video 1 5:44pm SpO2 68% - 65%
Video 2 5:48pm SpO2 94% - 64%
Video 3 5:55pm SpO2 77% - 98%

Exposed #COVID19 7/26/22. 1st symptoms few days later. 106 fever, cough by 7/4/22 still test neg on PCR & rapid. Tested pos evening of 7/5/22. Some sense of smell started coming back last week. 10/6/22 RECOVER study: Severe microsmia. I recognized 4. Guessed others. #LongCOVID🧵 ImageImageImage
2/ There's a distinction between neural injury fr virus vs vaccine. Loss of smell & taste only occurred following virus. Documenting brain injury before & in the absence of virus but with spike protein evidence fr vaccine (high neutralizing antibodies) vs virus, some similarities
3/ but this distinction of loss of smell and taste is an interesting one that leads to questions of paths of neural injury difference. My documented injury J&J was visible via SPECT (profusion) in the absence of loss of smell. Now: neurosciencenews.com/covid-smell-lo…
