🧵1/ On Jan4th Penny Daflos interviewed Dr.Henry. Responses incl. gaslighting, mistruths & run-on sentences w/endings that contradict their beginnings.
The following is my attempt to wade thru & counter each w/evidence-based facts. #bpoli
Here's the Q & A gist of it…
2/ Q #1 "…XBB.1.5 is making alot of people nervous…what is your perspective…about the data you’re seeing?"
A: "We’re watching…we have quite a robust WGS..still small %, not seeing rapid take-off like...U.S...it's concern…but at the end of the day it's still Omicron."
Oh?
3/ You mean this Omicron, Dr. Henry?
“In fact, every Omicron *low* has been higher than Delta’s *peak.* This means a sustained pressure on an already exhausted HC system."
4/ Q #2: "Given this immune evasive quality...like XBB.1.5..are you concerned?"
A: "yes, it seems to cause more infection..to bind to..ACE2 receptors..&..2 doses does give long-term good protection against severe illness...still imp to get booster…"
Let's save this for later.
5/ Q #3: "Is it time to change our approach to let people know just how critical updated bivalent booster is?"
A: "Most of what we're seeing…is very good Fall booster program...high uptake in >70..in LTC &..CEV...if you haven’t got booster in last 6 mths…get bivalent now.”
6/ BUT...
“Why are some prov allowing bivalent...after 3mths & we’re still 6? That just hasn’t been clearly explained.”
"To get vaxxed, people need to feel like it’s imp to do...govt can’t minimize..& expect people to run out & get it.”@DrKarinaZeidler thetyee.ca/News/2023/01/0…
7/ Q #4: "Given XBB.1.5...is it time to just have a simplified discussion about when in an indoor public space just wear a mask?"
A: “We spread it to those we are closest with, when we aren't necessarily wearing masks…so it’s very challenging…BUT con't...
8/ “if we’re in crowded situation w/lots of people we don’t know, vent is poor, wearing a mask can really give you extra protection.”
9/ Q #5: “US jurisdictions” w/ “steep rise in XBB.1.5 are also seeing an increase in hosp..Shouldn't we be doing more to preserve our HC system?"
A: "the data from U.S shows...it's more people being infected but not more severe illness…just larger #s mean more...going to hosp”
10/ YES, Dr. Henry, more in hosp. Which means more really sick. And that’s due to increased spread. So maybe mitigate to reduce spread?
Oh & there’s lots of cause for concern for increased illness too, remember ACE2 receptors you mentioned earlier?⬇️ thetyee.ca/Analysis/2023/…
11/ Q #6: "We’re seeing more research that repeat infections can have LT consequences on body…will you be communicating that more..?"
A: "Yeah, we’ve been talking about that quite abit (?) And date shows us that things have changed w/ Omicron..." con't
12/ "And thankfully LC symptoms that persist…are less common..& they are much much less common if vaxxed…so getting infection on top of vax is less risky.”
Okay, let’s check the facts on risks of reinfections:
14/ Q #7: "Do you have any plans to reassess the criterion...expand eligibility for people to get Paxlovid?"
A: "The biggest challenge…is that about 1/2 people who are eligible…are on other meds…they can’t take it safely...We’re seeing it being used actively in hosp tho..."
15/ As @Protect_BC explains here though, doctors, nurse practitioners, pharmacists can solve that problem, there really aren’t many contraindications & obv the point is to use it proactively to prevent hospitalization!
@Protect_BC: "Access to Paxlovid should never be determined by the province you live in. British Columbians should have equal access to COVID therapies as any other Canadians do.” protectbc.ca/broaden-paxlov…
18/ Q #9: "people still being hosp..dying..there were more..last year counted as Covid deaths…will we be seeing more of you to communicate that?"
A: "So, I've been talking alot about Influenza, RSV..affecting younger people…SARS-CoV2 is going to be w/ us long term..." con't
19/ "So what do we need to do to manage...making sure we pay attention to those more vulnerable to severe illness..& our health system...how to put in our daily lives & continue w/school…post sec & get back to social connections that are so imp..."
21/ Q #10: "..is there anything you want to get out there?"
A: "This pandemic is not over yet. It w/b..I think, but we have few more mths..we need booster doses & watch what’s happening globally. We know HC system is stretched. We're trying to make some changes to support it."
22/ Well, now we know what kind of changes were in the works to "support HC system", don't we? @adriandix
After. All. This. More decanting.
That's it. That's the strategy.
And more widespread illness, deaths, patient suffering & collapsing HC system.
24/ Thank you @PennyDaflos for your professionalism & composure while leaving no stone unturned & asking - sometimes twice - the all important critical questions. 🙏 #bcpoli
🧵 1/ It’s become quite apparent re: complete lack of media coverage that likely only these 4 (& those they chose to share it with) were privy to this 2nd letter dated Apr12/22 from HRC Govender: Dr. Henry herself w/CCs to @adriandix & 2 DPHOs. #bcpolibchumanrights.ca/wp-content/upl…
2/ What happened? Well, on the newly updated HRC “Key Issues: Covid-19” Sec, it incl this link to “Discrimination Media Release” page that was last updated on Mar28/22. Which was the media release date of the Mar16/22 letter & comes before the 2nd letter. bchumanrights.ca/news/commissio…
3/ So, I took a trip down memory lane to rehash the cascade of attention that this 1st HRC letter received after Henry’s Mar10/22 mask repeal. bchumanrights.ca/wp-content/upl…
2/ As per your Apr12/22 reply to #DrHenry, you state: “Although I understand reasoning…for ending temp mask mandate, I wish to offer some responses to points raised in you Mar31/22 letter.” Con’t…
3/ “While it’s encouraging pop-level threat of serous outcomes from Covid is reduced, it’s not the proportion of people at risk but the rights of marginalized that are relevant to HR...”
🧵 1/ So, @CDCofBC remember the good old days before all this PR spin & politicization of viruses when you would w/o ambiguity & careful omission report weekly virus info incl *Influenza-like illness (ILI) outbreaks in schools*? Let’s dig in to this, shall we?#bcpoli
2/ So, here’s blast from past re:3 yrs ago via your 2019-20 weekly report when news out of Wuhan was just unraveling on pg 10 but you were still speaking truth on pg 9 that “Four school Influenza-like Illness (ILI) outbreaks have been reported.” #bcedbccdc.ca/resource-galle…
3/ Okay & let’s travel back further to 4 yrs ago when BC kids were on cusp of Winter Break. Here’s your 2018 Influenza info for Dec 9-15 & on pg 10 you report that “24 Influenza-like Illness school outbreaks h/b reported.”This lines up w/pg 3 ⬆️#s in BCCH! bccdc.ca/resource-galle…
🧵1/ So, I wrote this letter to @KasariGovender:
"Dear Commissioner,
In your Mar16/22 letter to Dr. Henry, you stated that it's 'part of your statutory responsibility to act as an impartial advocate for the promotion & protection of HR in BC.'" #bcpoli
2/ "You also stated that lifting the mask mandate will do 'disproportionate harm to those already marginalized' & that 'parents who may be vulnerable w/b faced w/difficult decision to send their children to schools w/increased risk of transmission.'”#bced
3/ "Since then, situation has only worsened re: compounding impact of mask removal on vulnerable people, incl those parents & now their children. In fact, all children are high risk now, making those children w/underlying cond, med complex needs & disabilities even more at risk."
🧵“It's incredible the learnings & support that we're providing BCians struggling w/Long term effects of Covid. Plus, in time, we'll all benefit from data gathered by our researchers to address this in the future” Tim Manning,PHSA Chair, Apr/22
Oh, they ALL know about #LongCovid
2/ For context, this quote was spoken immediately following this special presentation about BC’s Post Covid-19 Interdisciplinary Clinical Care Network (PC-ICCN) at the PHSA’s April 28/22 Open Board Meeting. mediasite.phsa.ca/Mediasite/Play…
3/ Okay, 1st just who is the PHSA? Well, they work w/ the BC Health Ministry, 5 regional & FN HAs "to bring health care closer to where BC residents live, to promote health, manage chronic illness...& improve access to evidence-informed practice...” phsa.ca/about/who-we-a…
This powerful letter from a 15-year old to their MLA today reflects that. Now, it’s your turn to listen & take notes⬇️
2/ “Around the world, we have seen democracy under attack, followed by renewed vows to defend it. Threats to democracy have infiltrated the west too, a place perceived on the world stage as a safe haven for democratic principles.”
3/ “In B.C, the recent decision to disqualify Anjali Appadurai is evidence that the NDP gov’t does not support true democratic processes. Hamish Telford, a political scientist at University of Fraser Valley, raised important questions on this topic regarding the leadership race.”
