The enemies are only 50 yards from us. We are heavily outnumbered. We are under devastating fire. I shall not withdraw an inch but will fight to our last man and our last round.
— Major Somanth Sharma, Battle of Badgam, 1947
Today's the Jayanti of First Paramaveera Chakra
Recipient Major Somanath Sharma.
On October 22, 1947 Pakistan Invaded Bharat and Bharatiya Military was deployed by October 25th
On 3 November, a batch of three companies was deployed to the Badgam area on patrol duties. Their objective was to check the infiltrators moving
toward Srinagar from the north. As there was no enemy movement, two of the three deployed companies returned to Srinagar at 2:00 pm. However, Sharma's D Company, was ordered to stay in position until 3:00 pm.
The M's Showed Their True Colours Then...
At 2:35 pm, Sharma's company was fired upon from the local resident houses in Badgam but counter-fire was not ordered to avoid injuring or killing innocent civilians.
And Suddenly, as per their plan, 700 Terrorists approached Badgam from the direction of Gulmarg. D Company was
soon surrounded from three sides and sustained heavy casualties from mortar fire. Sharma realized the importance of holding onto his position as both the city of Srinagar and the airport would be vulnerable if lost. Under heavy fire, and outnumbered by a ratio of seven to one,
he urged his company to fight bravely, often exposing himself to the enemy fire as he ran from one post to the other.
And then he transmitted the message mentioned in the 1st tweet.
Major Sharma & 20 Other Brave Soldiers were Martyred & It took 3 Days to identify Major's Body.
Though it was disfigured beyond recognition, his body was identified by means of the leather holster of his pistol & a few pages of #BhagavadGita in his chest pocket.
On 21st June 1950, Major Sharma became the first recipient of Paramaveera Chakra for defending Srinagar Airport.
He was just 24 Year Old when he died in action.
Ironically, #ParamaVeeraChakra was designed by Smt. Savitri (Yvonne) and Major Somnath Sharma was Brother in Law of her elder daughter Kumudini.
“Even should the British leave in consequence of such murderous acts, who will rule in their place? The only answer is: the murderers”.
According to Gandhi, British were fit to rule India and those who took up armed resistance against
British were Murderers.
Remember that this statement was done in 1909, where there was no connection between Gandhi & Freedom Struggle.
"India can gain nothing from the rule of murderers-no matter whether they are black or white. Under such a rule, India will be utterly ruined
& laid waste. This train of thought leads to a host of reflections, but I have no time to set them down here. I'm afraid some Indians will commend this murder. I believe they will be guilty of a heinous sin. We ought to abandon such fanciful ideas.'' (Ref: Gandhi - Hind Swaraj)
I never understood budget & today also, the same thing...
Nevertheless, 2 incidents which happened earlier keeps me interested.
1) Stopping seperate railway budget.
2) I don't remember who said this,
"Earlier Governments used to table railway projects only to appease people
in their constituencies, like construction of new railway line & announcing new trains which mostly remained on paper", "now we will finish feasible outdated projects & also implement new projects which we announce".
Modi Govts decision to replace @AshwiniVaishnaw as Railway Minister was a surprise for many & like others, I was apprehensive about the development, but,
Why blame Hamid Ansari when Gandhi did the same. By the end of this thread, your blood, boils!
High ranking British officials including Viceroys Chelmsford, Linlithgow and Puckle (DG of Intelligence in 1940), would naturally find Gandhi as an "asset".
"The best policeman
the British had in India", and "out, he might prove of great assistance to them "
THE MISSIONARIES have also commented how Gandhi aided the efforts of the govt to crush the revolutionaries and sidelined them. In the words of a prominent missionary, Stanley Jones,
"He saw clearly that there were two ways that India might gain her freedom. She might take the way of the sword & bomb, the way Bengal anarchists have actually taken. The fires of rebellion were underneath. The flash of a bomb here and there let the world see in that lurid light
Today is one of the darkest days in Post-independence Bharatiya History & majority of the population
doesn't know how more than 10,000 Hindus were butchered for being Hindus.
The Dalit Lanterns Aka Communists INVITED DALITS of Bangladesh Who Were Settled In Orissa & MP To Settle In Marichjhapi (An Island In Sunderbans) As It Was Their Native.
Jyoti Basu Was Ruling Then.
Here's excerpts from Deep Halder, who brought out the tragedy called Marichjhappi..
"Chotoloks - the class-less and the caste-less people who have no right to live" - These are the very people who kept quiet when the refugees who came back from Dandakaranya in search of home,
