After the Kargil War, a committee was formed to study the sequences leading to the war and suggest recommendations on how the country’s National Security System can be made more efficient. 2/n 
One of the key recommendations of the Kargil War Committee was to reduce the average age of soldiers in the army so that they would remain young and fit. 3/n
Quoting the report, “...instead of the present practice of having 17 years of colour service, it would be advisable to reduce the colour service to a period of 7-10 years and, thereafter, release these officers and men for service in the country’s para-military formations.” 4/n
The committee had noted that this would result in a decrease in the average age of the Army and paramilitary forces, as well as a decrease in the expense of pensions and other rights like housing for married couples and access to educational institutions. 5/n
Agnipath scheme has implemented this very recommendation of the Kargil War Committee but according to Rahul Gandhi RSS was responsible for it — a claim which is backed by no substantial evidence. 6/n
