1/8. 🤯An eye-opening new tracker detailing the flight emissions✈️of the #SuperRich has been created by Akash Shendure a high school senior from Seattle in the U.S! But how do the emissions of the 1% relate to #LossAndDamage from the #ClimateCrisis?

2/8. 📈Although there are many ways to measure responsibility for the #ClimateCrisis, no matter which way you do it's the richest countries🌐, people🎩 and polluting industries🏭 that come out on top. 👇

3/8. Between 1990 and 2015 the proportional #CO2 emission of the richest 1% of the world's population were 15%, whilst in the same period the richest 10% accounted for 52%.

4/8. Whilst, flying in private jets makes up only part of these emissions, private frequent flyers are emitting dozens or hundreds of times the highest per capita average in a year just by flying.

5/8.🌊Ultimately, more emissions means more #LossAndDamage will take place in the future which is why communities on the front lines of the #ClimateCrisis are calling for the rapid phase OUT of all #FossilFuels and people from around the 🌍are calling for an end to #PrivateJets.

6/8. ⏰In the meantime, with the establishment of the #LossAndDamage Fund at #COP27 policymakers will be looking at innovative ways to fill the Fund with money so that impacted developing countries can start addressing the impacts of the #ClimateCrisis.

7/8.💡So far some of the ideas that have been raised have included a modest✈️#AirPassengerLevy (#IAPAL), taxing the windfall profits of #FossilFuel Companies🏭, and progressive taxes on wealth ownership🤑, all of which could yield hundreds of billions of dollars of every year! 💰
