Those who say #LBJ killed #JFK do a great disservice to both men.
Despite his youth, Kennedy was in frail health with an illness that could kill him. He chose his successor with care. Johnson was the man he selected, over many objections.
As he said himself, LBJ was HIS man.
Source: New York Times coverage of Kennedy’s announcement of VP nominee, Democratic National Convention. July 15, 1960.
Sen. Kennedy said many times throughout the primary season of 1960 that because of LBJ’s many years as Senate Majority Leader, “Lyndon Johnson is the best qualified man to run the country of all the candidates in this race, including myself.”
Kennedy overruled strong objections to Johnson as VP from labor, civil rights leaders, and his own brother Bobby (who detested LBJ) — most of Johnson’s camp hated the idea.
But Kennedy insisted.
Johnson was the only man he trusted to carry on if he didn’t survive his term.
Twitter was down this morning when I was trying to add a tweet so this thread got a bit jumbled!
I realize these facts will be unpopular with the conspiracy crowd who believes LBJ was involved in the plot to kill JFK, but there is absolutely no evidence to support that theory. (And trust me, I’ve spent decades looking, because I too wanted to believe LBJ was involved).
I have many strong criticisms of LBJ as president (particularly on Vietnam) but I’m not going to convict a dead man of murder when there’s no evidence to support his involvement in the plot.
LBJ also believed there was a conspiracy. He never believed the Warren Commission!
Johnson confided his doubts in taped phone calls with his close friend Sen. Richard Russell (the lone dissenting voice on the Warren Commission).
For those still skeptical, I recommend watching this excellent presentation at the Russell Library:
In September 1969, LBJ told CBS’ Walter Cronkite that he did not agree with the single bullet theory. Out of fear for the safety of his family, Johnson asked Cronkite not to air that part of the interview until after his death.
So here it is, from 1975:
Sen. Russell was so damn mad at the Warren Commission he left town in a fury a few days before the Report was released, and called the president to voice his objections.
LBJ AGREED WITH HIM.
This is one of the most important phone calls in 🇺🇸history.
Sen. Russell felt that the FBI and CIA were deliberately withholding evidence from the Commission (many years later, we learned that Russell was in fact correct).
Paper written by Professor Donald E. Wilkes Jr.,
University of Georgia School of Law:
This scholarly paper from the Miller Center explains the cordial and respectful relationship between JFK and LBJ, and makes clear that RFK’s seething hatred of VP Johnson was NOT shared by President Kennedy.
Johnson was always perplexed as to why Robert Kennedy hated him so, and made numerous attempts to heal the rift with Bobby — all of them rudely rebuked.
This caused President Kennedy many headaches, as he was often forced to play referee between his brother and his Veep…
RFK’s animus infected many Kennedy staffers, who treated LBJ very poorly.
This bothered the hell out of JFK, who was always telling them to treat his friend LBJ with due respect.
On day one of his presidency, JFK made clear: “anyone who is rude to VP Johnson will be fired!”
Robert Caro demolished the lies Robert Kennedy told about LBJ in his 3rd book on Johnson, “The Passage of Power,” finally settling the argument once and for all.
After the CIA killed President Kennedy, they cooked up several “false sponsors” — cover stories to deflect public attention away from the real culprits.
Hence, you have the Castro-Did-It theory, the Mob-Did-It theory, the Jews-Did-It theory, and the LBJ-Did-It theory.
These “false sponsors” are floated in numerous books, movies, and online rumor mills.
The CIA has been doing this to influence public opinion since 1964, when it was clear that a majority of Americans did not believe Oswald acted alone.
Don’t get confused. Don’t be fooled.
Once you clear out all the fog that the CIA enshrouded the facts of this case behind, and get down to the hard cold evidence — you are left with only ONE conclusion:
Castro didn’t kill JFK.
The Russians didn’t kill JFK.
LBJ didn’t kill JFK.
The CIA killed JFK.
Case closed!
Reading the replies to this thread, it is evident that the CIA’s long campaign to use #LBJ as a false sponsor of the #JFKAssassination has been very effective indeed.
See how good they are at brainwashing the public? 🧠 🧼
I’ll add to this thread a video I recently made in a series on the #JFKAssassination.
Pay close attention to the last 3 minutes about false sponsors!
On Nov. 22, 1963, President Lyndon Johnson pledged to complete the unfinished work of #JFK's New Frontier.
He kept that promise to President Kennedy and the nation.
Here is a short summary of the Great Society legislative record of LBJ. ⬇️
Lyndon Johnson was riding 2 cars behind Kennedy in Dallas and could have been killed that day. His best friend Gov. John Connally was badly wounded in the shooting.
#LBJ feared he was a target that day. Maybe he was? 🧐
They almost killed LBJ a few months later in Feb. 1964!
The stories about the late John McAfee’s wild sexual escapades may or may not have been true. He too was targeted (and eventually murdered, I believe) by the Deep State.
We gave John the benefit of the doubt, and should give Ritter the same courtesy.
If you are wondering why the @RageAgainstWar_ rally is under such intense attacks (from without and within), you need only look at #7 on our list of demands.
Calling for the total abolishment of the CIA is noble (and needed!) but … expect the Agency to unleash hellfire against any person or organization calling for the end of their global mafia.
As sure as day follows night and night follows day…
The last president who tried to abolish the CIA got scattered to the four winds in Dallas. #JFK
Exactly 40 years before the U.S. blew up the #Nordstream pipelines, the CIA blew up another pipeline carrying natural gas from #Russia to #Europe.
This thread is about the Trans-Siberian pipeline sabotage of 1982 -- the largest non-nuclear explosion ever on Planet Earth.
Thomas Reed, senior US national security official, claims in his book “At The Abyss” that the U.S. allowed the USSR to steal pipeline control software from a Canadian company. This software included a Trojan Horse that caused a major explosion of the Trans-Siberian gas pipeline.
The Trojan ran during a pressure test on the pipeline but doubled the usual pressure, causing a tremendous explosion.
