what I’m calling #thesystem is a serious risk to #wellness and #organizationaleffectiveness 🧵👇
Theory: in large human endeavors "the system" resists or rejects the dialogic learning; real relating

like having an inescapable gravity of "status quo" & "performing relationships" that dehumanizes

so "good people" & "good organizations" can "get infected by the system"

...
why? because of an institutional form of "peer pressure"

patterns of action & behavior that "norm" for the individual in the group, including tools for control

so ingroup-outgroup dynamics propel & reinforce these "emotive" patterns

control levers reinforce hierarchies

...
individuals learn that "staying in my lane" is the best way to avoid the control levers, moments of stress and dilemma in relationships

norms for "calm" and "professionalism" reinforce the institutional desire to maintain its own sense of direction & "purpose" - controlled

...
so what "dies" when "the system" takes over is the emergence of "new"

like a fearful brain enacting its body from trauma

"the system" pathologizes difference, cannot integrate "new"

b/c "the system" fears loss of control, loss of predictable knowing of the future

...
so in other words, "the system" is pathological control that dominates large human networks

akin to a dead-but-alive "zombie force" that dehumanizes all those who encounter it

and in worst cases can "turn people into zombies" with language like "we have to run a business"

...
it's important to note that the people afflicted, the "leaders of the system" for the most part are also "not to blame" either

this is an effect of large networks of human interaction, where structures of connection and norms of behavior become performative & prescribed

...
love your thoughts @DrAaronB @rascality others

One interesting thing about me that different from many scientists and logical thinkers:

I don’t care if the terms are fuzzy or yield different definitions

b/c I’m guided by what I feel & know

Not (primarily) ideas or concepts, though they are part of the discovery
The advantage for this way of “researching” is that one can recognize how others are rising their language, from their framework, to describe the same things

This resonance w difference is joyful!

Like discovering a sibling or a cousin, and feeling the similarities instantly

-
And part of the wonder in these explorations to different worlds is the encountering of a new logic

Ex: “that color is blue” is stated when we both begin to color together

The entry point to experience is “too-down” w structure, definition and “knowing”

Cool! Let’s do that!

"How To Become A Trauma-Informed Employer: Trauma-informed employers will be well-equipped to recognize the underlying cause of these difficulties and to provide support and guidance for that underlying trauma." from bit.ly/3lPfxXe worries me 🧵 👇
1/ I do wish more organization were "trauma informed"

we all recognize how organizations (and society) can generate the experience of trauma

and understanding this, organizations (and society) can take action to reduce these impacts

we can all agree that will be better, no?
2/ I am worried about performative awards for orgs

notice language: "... employers will be well-equipped to recognize the underlying cause of these difficulties and to provide support and guidance for that underlying trauma"

that's it? recognize, provide support & guidance?

More on #differentiation

most conceive of this as a self-other experience (it is)

executing this “skill” with another, requires use of this “skill” within oneself

👇🏼
experientially, phenomenologically

“raw” experience is enactive, impulsive

… or soupy, slow, simmering
… or thick, fuzzy, numb, diffuse

and millions of other variations

/2
Within oneself to “differentiate” experience here means to literally feel HOW this experience unfolds in micro-time

this is #discernment too

… to feel
… to experience
… to move
… in real time
… enacting & discerning
… electric & slow
… and the universe between

“We tend to think of #burnout as an individual problem, solvable by “learning to say no,” more yoga, better breathing techniques, practicing resilience — the self-help list goes on.

“But evidence is mounting that applying personal, band-aid solutions to an epic and rapidly evolving workplace phenomenon may be harming, not helping, the battle.

“When Stanford researchers looked into how workplace stress affects health costs and mortality in the United States, they found that it led to spending of nearly $190 billion — roughly 8% of national  healthcare outlays — and nearly 120,000 deaths each year.

It's a hologram of a ghost

How understanding humans by focusing on their “psyche” or “mind” can be problematic 🧵👇🏼
1/ takes a stance of separation

To reflect or be reflective is to step (partially) outside of experience, to observe apart

This distance from affective experience can be useful, but it is not all of “what makes us human”
2/ places meaning in concepts

As opposed to felt experience, of course not in all ways. But as we know avoidances are relentless and deceptive, so many can “fall asleep” in a kind of “dissociative field” of conceptual meaning to avoid the chaos of experiential uncertainty
