At #CROI2023 today, @profchloeorkin described the especially devastating case of a young man with advanced HIV and a very low CD4 count who had severe lesions and lung disease. He died following a bowel perforation 113 days after his first mpox symptom. nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-he…

The #mpox (#monkeypox) death rate was 15% among those with AIDS in a recent study of global cases of mpox. Among people with HIV and severe immunosuppression--a CD4 count below 100--the death rate was a staggering 27%, I report for @NBCNews @NBCOUT.
