Thread: BSF Soldiers Disarmed by Bengali Farmers

Two #BSF jawans were attacked and their weapons snatched allegedly by Bangladeshi farmers who sneaked into India to graze their cattle in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on 26 Feb 2023.
The incident happened near the Nirmalchar border outpost in Ranitala police station area when two jawans of the 35th Battalion were patrolling. On noticing that a group of #Bangladeshi farmers was crossing the border to graze their cattle on fields of #Indianfarmers.....,
...the jawans intercepted them. Soon, hundreds of people from #Bangladesh crossed over to India, and attacked the jawans with sticks and ‘dah’ a sharp-edged tool mainly used in farming as per #BSF. BSF said the Border Guards Bangladesh (#BGB) was informed about the incident...,
...and a flag meeting has been sought so that the weapons of the jawans could be recovered, besides preventing such incidents in the future.
No one has the right to kill a citizen a neighbor at the border. This is a clear violation of human rights and international law.
#Bangladesh needs to intensify its foreign policy and diplomatic efforts to reduce incidents. If a citizen crosses the border unknowingly, by mistake or illegally, arrangements must be made to hand them over to the BGB or local police as per agreement.
Comprehensive and holistic political dialogue between the two parties is needed in this regard.
Several years ago, Human Rights Watch (HRW) cited a number of such cases in a report called Trigger Happy.
Survivors and eyewitnesses allege that the BSF fired indiscriminately without trying to apprehend or warn them. The #BSF also claimed that its members fired when the miscreants tried to avoid arrest. However, the use of lethal weapons on suspicion of any crime is not justified.
Not only cattle are smuggled across the Bangladesh-India border, but also drugs and illegal weapons come from India. The #BSF does not see that. #NewDelhi can also resolve the issue of extrajudicial killings of civilians along the shared border...
...through joint patrolling and management of borders. #Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that “Border killings are a shame for India. It has been decided between the two countries that no lethal weapons will be used on the border.
No shots will be fired. But it is happening. So, it is a shame for them.” And sadly, we are losing our lives.
The failure of the Indian authorities to take any meaningful action to stop the killings at the border for years is detrimental to Indo-Bangladesh bilateral ties.
This has put the #Bangladesh government in a difficult position by increasing the pressure on bilateral relations. Now is the time for #Dhaka policymakers to take action to come to the right conclusion.

Can any Indian or @Javedakhtarjadu himself dare to speak on the use of pellet guns, gang-rapes, extra-judicial killings, and stripping civilians of human dignity is the everyday routine of #Indianforces in #IIOJK?
Occurrences like the government sanctioned release of eleven convicts who were charged with the gang rape of Bilquis Bano and the murder of her family in the #Gujarat riots of 2002, conveys clearly that #MuslimWomen are unsafe in India.
@Javedakhtarjadu was hosted by Pakistan at the #FaizLiteratureFestival2023. He is trending on social media, for all the wrong reasons though and none of them have to do with Literature. @Javedakhtarjadu spoke about defusing tension between the two countries and said.....
