Ok, #Sudan story time, or as I like to call it: a tale of "White Nonsense".
In October of 2021, the Civilian-led government of Sudan suffered a military coup on the hands of both the #SAF under AlBurhan & the #RSF under Hamdeti, the two leaders & forces fighting today.
This was naturally detrimental to #Sudan 's transition towards civilian democratic rule & a set back for the civilian revolutionary forces, who had finally removed ELBeshir after more than 30 years of dictatorship, Genocide, War & economic sanctions. So what did the US do?
The logical thing for the US - big advocate of democratic rule- was to impose western sanctions on the generals who did the coup to pressure them to back down. This was the recommendation of Jeffrey Feltman, the #U.S. envoy for the Horn of Africa for the #Biden administration.
However, Feltman's recommendation for sanctions on #Sudan 's coup-ist Generals was opposed by Molly Phee, the U.S. assistant secretary of state for African affairs, brilliant strategist that she is, out of fear of alienating Genocide committer #Hamdeti & facilitater #alBurhan .
That fight was mentioned in this Foreign Policy article, and (spoilers) #MollyPhee won that fight in the #Biden administration. After all, we can't risk upsetting the Generals whom she knew during her days as US Ambassador to South Sudan.
Instead, as a response to the coup, #MollyPhee & the west, chose to deny #Sudan & its people much needed financial assistance, one that was promised in exchange of devaluating the Sudanese Pound. This Plunged Sudan into a huge economic & humanitarian crisis for the past 2 years.
The genius strategy of #MollyPhee was to pressure the Sudan Generals by economically punishing its people, causing instability. This is a tried & true strategy from the "White Nonsense" book of diplomacy, one that NEVER EVER WORKED, especially in #SUDAN.
Logical questions of how this deters civilian-killing #Sudan generals were never asked. Even claims that it affects their funding were BS: the #SAF just took more from the state budget, & the #RSF had their human-trafficking business & the gold they mined & sold to #Russia.
So, while #MollyPhee 's strategy ensured that the Sudanese people stayed hungry, poor, hopeless & afraid, it also made #Hamedti one of Sudan's richest people, money he used to buy favor all over Sudan, while #AlBurhan had the state & financial backing from other regional actors.
Basically, #MollyPhee 's strategy made both those criminals the two richest & most powerful men in #Sudan, while the Sudanese civilians plunged into poverty that got worse on daily basis. Those men both distrusted each other, with each maneuvering for the eventual clash.
Today, #MollyPhee 's strategy has reached its ultimate success, with both criminal Generals she supported engaging in armed conflict that could plunge #Sudan into another civil war & destroy the future of its people for good.
This is her btw: state.gov/biographies/mo…
So, if you are in the US, and you are horrified about what's going on in Sudan, please help me spot the light on #MollyPhee 's role , and subsequently the #BidenAdministration 's role in today's Chaos. Such gross & criminal ineptitude deserves recognition: state.gov/biographies/mo…
The framing of the #Sudan current conflict as a proxywar between the #UAE backed #RSF & #Egypt backed #SAF is not only wrong, but one of the dumbest misinformed takes one could have about this situation. Rivalled only by the take that supporting the Generals wud lead to democracy
First off:
-the UAE doesnt back the #RSF over the Sudan military. They back both, but will always lean to the side of institutions (The Army) when push comes to shove, and has been for the past 6 months. Same with Saudi.
Secondly:
The #SAF is not only backed by #Egypt..it is also backed by the Gulf, the EU and the US. The western powers specifically will never back the #RSF or Hamedti given his history of ethnic cleansing in Darfur, & especially after his collaboration with #Russia got exposed.
