6 lakh Punjabis appear for IELTS, TOEFL annually & 1.5 Lakh #Punjab#students move to foreign colleges every year; emigration process cost is Rs 20 lakh for the 1'st year, i.e. 30,000 crore going out of Punjab each year.
Paucity of jobs, avenues, is draining Punjab !!
Before the Covid-19 outbreak, there were around 17,500 IELTS centers in Punjab, including more than 2,200 in the Doaba region only, the NRI belt of the state comprising four districts – Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur. In Jalandhar alone, there are 1,550 centers
Consultants say that more than 40% of all students who migrated from India to foreign countries are from #Punjab. Parents see no future for their children, & drug addiction has only compounded the woes. In such a situation, the immigration industry has become quite huge Punjab !
Punjab #Farmers are selling off their land, to fund their wards education, foreign passage or the other way out is to find a IELTS pass bride for their son, with the grooms side bearing all the future expenses. 58% of the students enrolled in IELTS centres are female Vs 42% male.

3 years ago, I sold a box of sweet potatoes for $17, Last year I got $15, & this year they’re paying $13
“Next year I can’t plant them,” he said.“It’s going to come to the point where there will be no local growers left &r produce will be imported".
Biden is trying to get rid of fossil fuels, and it’s killing us, our packaging costs doubled, fuel costs are through the roof, and we paid $1,000 a ton this year for fertilizer that was $500 a ton in 2021.
So we get hit twice,” he said. “It’s putting a lot of pressure on us.”
Another farmer says: We lost peach processing market to China, U.S fruit canneries have closed in recent years after China’s low labor costs sent prices for imported canned fruit plummeting; that’s why most farmers right now r pulling back, not making investments in new plantings
