Back in 2018, the @JoCoxLoneliness Commission headed by @RachelReevesMP & @SeemaKennedy published a report calling for action on #TacklingLoneliness, which led to the creation of a Loneliness Minister in Government & a strategy to combat #loneliness

Many organisations across civil society, from tiny community organisations to huge businesses, worked together to build social connections and support people of all ages to reconnect with others, recognising the negative impacts of #loneliness on individuals & wider society 3/
I was Director of Policy @BritishRedCross, & v.proud to have played a role in partnership with @coopukcampaigns to build the evidence base & advocate for change, inc working with MPs to set up #APPG on #TacklingLoneliness & action through the pandemic redcross.org.uk/about-us/what-… 4/
And the widespread recognition of #loneliness and efforts in communities across the UK led to a real step-change in how loneliness is understood - as affecting people of all ages & background, with real impacts on physical and #MentalHealth. gov.uk/government/pub… 5/

But... To end #loneliness needs sustained focus and action, from the top of Government to local authorities, from #NHS Mandate to integrated care systems, from big business to grassroots, #socialprescribing, evidence & funding. The intervention by @Surgeon_General is welcome...7/
