2) In April-May 2020, French Twitter users suffering from lingering Covid-19 symptoms started the hashtag #aprรจsJ20. This quickly spread worldwide, with people sharing their experiences with persistent symptoms.
3) Italian researcher @elisaperego78 was the first to use the term "Long Covid". This virtual mobilization led to media and doctors starting to take the issue seriously, while others dismissed it.
4) In times of vaccine shortage and lack of masks, the idea of a mild disease that could become almost chronic and seriously disabling was alarming.
5) The non-specificity of symptoms and the mental and cognitive aspects of Long Covid led some doctors to interpret it as a psychosomatic or functional disorder.
6) Not long ago, diseases such as gastric-duodenal ulcers were viewed as "anxiety diseases" and Parkinson's as a mental illness. Long Covid's prevalence is slightly higher in women, leading to sexist and paternalistic prejudices,
7) claiming it's a disease of "women who focus too much on themselves". This attitude is problematic as it discredits patients' suffering and denies that they may have serious health problems.
8) Denying mental health issues hampers the search for effective solutions. It leads to rejection by doctors and society, isolates those affected, and makes them vulnerable to charlatans, who promise quick healing through useless or dangerous methods.
9) This attitude risks breeding mistrust towards health professionals and promotes misinformation.

11) These include a deregulated immune response, persistence of SARS-CoV-2 in mucous membranes and organs, a disruption in monocyte function, and excessive production of the pathogenic protein #HERV-W-ENV.
