Well done to all involved in #CleanAirDay actions in & around Preston Street Primary this morning 👏👏👏Air pollution notices were handed out before school on behalf of the Parent Council Transport & Environment Committee before school by volunteer campaigers😉#Edinburgh#LEZ
These notices highlight the unique position of Preston Street Primary sitting diectly on the boundary of a “Low Emission Zone” which skirts two sides of a primary school building. Step out of the playground at either side of the building and you step directly outside the #LEZ
As far as we are aware there are no current plans to extend the LEZ coverage area beyond the current plans. Hopefully this will change when there is #AirPollution data available once the current zone is in operation. #ActiveTravel#Edinburgh#LEZ
'Mitigation', inc upgrading junctions, improving pedestrian domain was a key part of the LEZ implementation plan, with potencial funding being available. We've not heard a word about it and the #LEZ is coming into effect June next year? @CllrScottArthur#Edinburgh#ActiveTravel
We are also concerened about the potencial increase in traffic flow of more polluting vehicles next to the school as a result of the positioning of the #Edinburgh#LEZ boundary which doesn't appear to consideration the health of our children 😠
It is our fear that the existing rat run through Holyrood Park has now been exacerbated creating a circular route with Dalkeith Rd, St Leonards, Pleasance, Holyrood Rd, Quuen's Drive & Holyrood Park Rd likely to suffer in increase in traffic/pollution as a result 🤦 #CleanAirDay
We took the oppertunity to discuss some of these issues with Clr Tim Pogson this morning & we look forward to futher engagement with CEC officers & other community stakeholders including @SouthsideCommu3 🤝 #Edinburgh#LEZ#CleanAirDay@CllrScottArthur
We have a few ideas on how best to tackle these issues not only for the benefit of our school but ideas that would transcend across other areas within our local community who appear to have been continually overlooked😉#Edinburgh#LEZ#CleanAirDay
#CleanAirDay is about more than leaving the car at home! If we're serious about reducing our environmental impact we need to address infrastructure at local levels. We have a few ideas how to tackle these issues @Edinburgh_CC
We're seeking support/feedback from local community stakeholders & those from the wider #Edinburgh area to join our campaign in seeking a more connected approach to #ActiveTravel & #SpacesForPeople#planning through cohesive #CommunityEngagement & inter-community cooperation.
