Following intense bombings by Israeli forces this Saturday morning in the Middle Area of #Gaza, our teams are working along medical staff at Al-Aqsa and Nasser hospitals to treat an overwhelming number of severely injured patients, many of whom are women and children.
"It's a nightmare at Al-Aqsa. There have been back-to-back mass casualties as densely populated areas are bombed. It’s way beyond what anyone could deal with in a functional hospital, let alone with the scarce resources we have here,” says Samuel Johann, MSF coordinator in Gaza.
"In one hour, we've received about 50 badly injured patients. There are people with multiple major open fractures. We've got several unconscious children. The intensive care unit is full, and more patients are arriving," says Chris Hook, MSF medical referent at Nasser hospital.
“How many more men, women and children have to be killed before world leaders decide to put an end to this massacre?" says Samuel Johann, MSF coordinator in #Gaza.

Al-Awda hospital in #Gaza is being forced to close following a terrifying four-day siege, the latest in a series of systematic attacks on healthcare by Israeli forces.
Staff and patients were forced to leave one of the only hospitals still functioning in the north of Gaza. 1/4
MSF has been working in partnership with Al-Awda hospital since 2018.
The hospital kept functioning since the start of the war despite horrendous conditions and amid constant attacks on healthcare. 2/4
On May 19, the hospital was surrounded by tanks, and staff and patients were forced to take cover under tables and beds as bullets and shelling smashed windows. 3/4
#Gaza: How the Israeli army besieged and attacked #Nasser hospital - Timeline and thread🧵
The evidence at our disposal points to deliberate and repeated attacks by the Israeli forces against Nasser hospital, its patients and medical staff. This is based on testimonies, external sources and MSF logbook, in which daily information relating to MSF projects is recorded.

Our teams are witnessing a shocking increase in Israeli attacks against civilians in Jenin, the West Bank. Attacks on healthcare have also increased dramatically and become systematic...
Amin was walking home when an Israeli soldier shot him in both legs. Despite there being a hospital next to the camp, the ambulance could not reach him for over 2 hours as Israeli Forces restricted the movement of ambulances, and cut off access to the hospital...
Bleeding profusely, Amin was picked up from the street by a medical volunteer and taken to one of the few trauma stabilization points in the camp – a simple room with little more than a bed frame and a few medical supplies. The goal was simply to stop the bleeding...
Jenin, West Bank: Israeli forces just shot and killed an unarmed teenage boy inside Khalil Suleiman hospital compound. Efforts to save his life from MSF and Ministry of Health doctors were in vain.
This morning, Israeli forces stopped ambulances taking discharged patients home outside Khalil Suleiman hospital. Paramedics and ambulance drivers were ordered out of the ambulances, stripped and made to kneel in the street. The patients were left in the ambulances.
All of this happened in full view of the MSF team. Since 7 October we have seen Israeli forces fire live bullets at the hospital, tear gas the hospital, block ambulances, humiliate and harass medical staff, and now – shoot and kill someone in the hospital compound.
Al-Shifa hospital complex, the biggest health facility where MSF staff are still working, has been hit several times, including the maternity and outpatient departments, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. #Gaza
Despite regular attacks and shortages, the staff has managed to keep the hospital operational. Yesterday, Al-Shifa hospital lost electrical power.
Al-Shifa hospital is the principal hospital complex in Gaza Strip, with 700 beds, providing emergency and surgical care. There are currently no other facilities in the Strip able to admit and treat as many patients with complex, sometimes life-threatening injuries.
Why is MSF calling on #Canada to ensure public spending on medical R&D is used for public health and not private profits? Because we have seen how it can save lives. A thread about #Ebola, Canadian science and the failure of the private sector. 1/12 bit.ly/3hF6WQn
#DidYouKnow that Canadian government scientists first developed an #Ebola vaccine as early as 2001 — but that it was still not available more than a decade later to help end the West Africa Ebola epidemic that killed thousands of people between 2014-16? Here’s why not: 2/12
Canada’s #Ebola vaccine was developed with public funds, but the medical R&D system is organized around creating commercial products for #pharma companies. So Canada didn’t test or trial its vaccine. Instead, the government left it to the private sector. This was a mistake. 3/12
