“Blacks call cops more” has become the standard explanation of why Blacks are arrested more among police defenders who also complain about a no-snitch black culture.
Police defenders sit comfortably in this hypocrisy in order to exonerate their racist policies in the face of racial disparities and police violence, to continuously pin the problem on Black and Latinx people. They seem unable to start snitching. theatlantic.com/politics/archi…

I think it high time to point out the destructive history of angry White men and their fake tears and real shouts. All those powerful & patriarchal & racist White men who presented themselves as victims of plots to take them down, meaning their freedom to assault us, to rule U.S.
To understand American history is to understand the sensational fairytales of White male victimhood where the victimizers are the victims and the victims are the victimizers.
When they snatched liberty from Black people they presented themselves as victims of British snatchers of their liberty. When they enslaved people they presented themselves as victims of those resisting their enslavement.

Not addressed here, & rarely ever addressed, when people don’t get arrested for low level offenses, they are still given summonses.

Is that better? Yes - they don’t spend the night in jail.

But it does absolutely nothing to address racial disparities.

We’ve had this wholesale transference of people from criminal court to summons court. So arrest statistics are down (but as this article points out, racial disparities remain) & the process has just become less visible.

In many ways, it’s a deliberate manipulation.
People issued summonses are still charged with the same offenses as if they were arrested - and in some cases this will be a misdemeanor.

That’s serious, but people, because they got a ticket, may not appreciate that and may be more likely to plead guilty.

Happy Saturday everyone! Preparing for a day in court. 9-5 arraignment shift. Meeting everyone arrested in Brooklyn within the last 24-48 hours. Why? Because mass incarceration doesn’t get a day of rest in the fourth largest city in America. Follow along for observations.

These are my blank “notices of appearance.” They represent the unknown humans who I’ll soon meet & the stories that they’ll soon share. New York AGAINST ___________. They’ll just be a docket number to the court. Just a charge & record to prosecution. My job is to individualize.

NEW: Federal prosecutors charged Therese Okoumou, who unfurled an 'Abolish ICE' banner at the base of the Statue of Liberty yesterday, with three counts that add up a possible 1.5-year sentence.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman slammed what he called a "dangerous stunt" in a statement.

In 10 years covering the courts, I have never seen such a strong statement from a U.S. Attorney directed against an activist engaged in civil disobedience.

Has anyone else?
This is usually the type of case that the U.S. Attorney lays low about while letting the assistants do the talking in court.

“In Brooklyn, officers in the precinct covering Canarsie arrested people at a rate more than 4 times as high as in the precinct that includes Greenpoint, despite residents calling 311/911 to complain about marijuana at same rate. Canarsie is 85% black. Greenpoint is 4% black.”

Node.js' insistence on being familiar to Unix people has hurt its developer experience more than they realize. Even after this many years, the docs are still subpar. Docs for `fs.mkdir` only says: `Asynchronous mkdir(2)` You shouldn't have to be Unix graybeard to use Node.js.
`mkdir(2)` does link to the Linux kernel man pages, but you shouldn't have to read Linux kernel docs to use Node.js.
When Apple has better API docs something is seriously wrong: developer.apple.com/documentation/… And a more intuitive method name.
