Herd immunity is when a significant proportion of the population becomes immune (through vaccines and prev. infection) to an infectious agent (e.g., virus), making the spread of the disease unlikely. As a result, the whole community becomes protected.

Every patient should demand "safe, appropriate, and timely care." But, there is no reason to believe that unvaccinated HCWs are unable to provide such care; which, they've been doing since the pandemic started

First, I fully support pushing for health care *policies* (e.g. at the employer level) that require proof of vaccinations or put in place additional precautions for unvaccinated HCWs.

However, patients have no right to demand and know that information directly from their HCWs.

I often see comments saying: "let #COVID19 spread widely so we can reach herd immunity".

**To those people**: NEVER, in the history of infectious diseases, has there been a situation where we reached herd immunity through "natural infections". It is NONSENSE.

#Epitwitter Epidemiology and public health experts discuss herd immunity in the context of VACCINES (e.g., irradicating smallpox). If we let #COVID19 rip through the population, we would require approximately 70% of people to be infected.

Since the #cornavirus pandemic was called, countries used different strategies to handle #COVID19. In general, there are 3 ways to handling a pandemic:
1) Do nothing to slow the spread of infections
2) Global coordination efforts to crush the virus
3) Delay and vaccinate

Governments and communities do nothing or very little to slow infections in the community (e.g. like Sweden). As a result, we see a surge in the number of cases. Without much time for researchers to study the virus, doctors will know little about treatments.

In the clip, "higher risk of infection" means an infected person can spread the virus if they come in contact with susceptible members of their social circle. The longer an infected person goes undetected w/o testing/self-isolation, the ⬆️the risk for members of their circle.
