I am completing my duty as Chinese Ambassador to the United States. I came to assume office in 2021 at a time of severe challenges for China-US relations. During my tenure here, I have been working to implement the common understandings of our two Presidents, serve as a bridge and bond of communication between the two countries, and explore the right way to get along for China and the US in the new era.

Talked with @SCClemons at the @semafor Africa Summit. China-Africa relations are the bedrock of China’s foreign policy. Africa should be a place for international cooperation, not for major-power competition for geopolitical gains. Transcript: us.china-embassy.gov.cn/eng/dshd/20221… We welcome all members of the international community, including the United States, to join us in the global efforts to help Africa.

China's investment and financing assistance to Africa is not a trap.

The turbulence in #HongKong was not caused by any problem with “One Country, Two Systems”. It was caused by some anti-China forces, who used “human rights”&“democracy” as a pretext, to manipulate the concept of “One Country, Two Systems” & undermine HK’s stability and prosperity. Hong Kong’s turbulence was a struggle between secession and anti-secession. Some people even held high the Union Jack, or the Stars and Stripes in Hong Kong, chanting “two countries, two systems”, and demanding “Hong Kong independence” or return to British colonial rule.

I also took questions on China-US relations, the Taiwan question, Hong Kong-related issues, and China’s diplomacy. Here is the transcript of the Q&A: us.china-embassy.gov.cn/eng/dshd/20220… Over the past years, the mainland has done many things to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations. We have shown our goodwill. Taiwan is a small place. Its market is limited, and there's not big room for Taiwan to develop its economy and livelihood.

We are one China, and #Taiwan is part of China. This is an indisputable fact supported by #history and the #law. Here are some excerpts from China’s latest white paper on #Taiwan. Read and know more: us.china-embassy.gov.cn/eng/zgyw/20220… 1. #Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times. The earliest references are to be found, among others, in Seaboard Geographic Gazetteer compiled in the year 230 by Shen Ying of the State of Wu during China’s Three Kingdoms Period.

China's SC&FM Wang Yi elaborates on China's position on the #Taiwan question: Taiwan has never been a country. There is only one China in the world and both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same China. This has been the status quo of Taiwan since ancient times. The China-U.S. Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations in 1978 clearly underlined that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is a part of China.

One-China principle is part of postwar int'l order & a general int'l consensus. As a country that thinks of itself as a champion of “rules-based int'l order,” the US should naturally abide by the #OneChinaPrinciple. Read my op-ed on The Washington Post: us.china-embassy.gov.cn/eng/dshd/20220… Image For “#Taiwan independence” forces, Pelosi’s visit represents an exceptionally strong signal that “the U.S. is on Taiwan’s side.” This goes against the one-China principle, the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and America’s own commitments.

I told @JohnKingCNN that Speaker Pelosi’s visit to China's Taiwan region is a reckless & provocative move. It is a major event upgrading the substantive relations btw the US and Taiwan, & sends a very wrong signal to “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, in whatever form, at whatever time during her tenure, carries high political sensitivities, and it will result in the escalation of the tension across the Taiwan Strait & the China-US relations. So we firmly and strongly condemn & protest against it.

The one-China principle is the bedrock of peace across the Taiwan Strait. Read my opinion piece @SCMPNews about the one-China principle and its signifiance for cross-strait peace and stability. scmp.com/comment/opinio… We're doing our utmost for peaceful reunification, as this is in the best interest of the whole nation, incl. our brothers & sisters in Taiwan. Not renouncing the use of force is not aimed at people in Taiwan, but to deter “Taiwan independence” separatists & external interference

I took an interview with "Talk with World Leaders" of Phoenix TV, and here is the link to the interview. china-embassy.org/dshd/202203/t2… Whether China-US relations can return to the track of healthy and stable development depends on whether the US side can honor its commitments.
