🧵1/12 #BorisJohnson & #PritiPatel will today announce their plans to send people seeking asylum in the UK to #offshoredetention camps in #Rwanda, to try & deter #refugees from seeking protection in the UK. Cruelty is the point of this policy. Here's why this will fail... 2/12 Johnson & Patel were inspired by Australia's brutal & widely condemned offshore detention camps on Nauru & Papua New Guinea. Conditions for 3,127 people in those camps were deliberately dangerous & inhumane & led to suicides, avoidable deaths & abuse of children by guards.

NEWS: We've been taking referrals for the #Jamaica50 mass deportation for the past few days. People who have been in the UK for 20 or 30 + years or most of their lives. People who came to the UK as toddlers, young children or teenagers & have no links to Jamaica... 2/ Most have a non-violent, drugs-related or one-off conviction. 1/ 🚨 CALL TO ACTION - @pritipatel is chartering another mass expulsion flight to Jamaica next Wednesday to deport up to 50 people incl many who have grown up in the UK (from nursery upwards). We are supporting several affected people who are in detention independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n… 2/ In December 2020 the Jamaican Government @AndrewHolnessJM secured an agreement with @BorisJohnson which prevented those who have been in the UK since they were under 12yo from being deported.

We are calling on both Governments to hold this line.
