Some of you have been following the conversation about the tweet that @JamalSimmons, the new Comms Director for the VP Harris, posted in 2010. In case you didn't know, I was one of the people who he is referring to. He just called me this morning to apologize and explain. 🧵👇🏾 Jamal committed to be an ally in his role. He acknowledged that the tweet was hurtful in the way it was written & explained that his intention was not to call for ICE to pick us up, but to understand the legality of how undocu folks were on TV without possible legal consequences.

There's a possibility I was one of those undocumented folks. Here's the thing, I don't know where Jamal is at in terms of how he feels about ICE targeting people like me for speaking out now. What matters to me, is that he shows through his actions that he didn't mean it. How? 👇🏾

Using his influence as someone so close to the VP to ensure she commits to overruling the parliamentarian on citizenship when BBB comes to the Senate floor.

AND ensuring that his new boss gets it right when it comes to migrants and immigration. None of that "don't come" crap.

Just the simple fact that you might think that a GROUP of people are "bad" people because decide to risk so much, including their children, to cross a border. Just that thought, shows your racism.

Hundreds of people are doing this for a reason. Stop and think! Why?

What hurts even more, is that both of our Arizona Senators voted for it. This includes my former boss and someone who I always looked up to so much when she was fighting anti-immigrant laws in Arizona. @kyrstensinema why would you do this?

The #DreamAct has been introduced again. I lost count of how many times it has been introduced at this point. In 2010, we were so close to passing, and it failed in the Democratic lead Senate by 5 votes. McCain filibustered the bill. 5 Democrats voted no or didn't show up. Why... ... I'm I reminding us of this? Because it doesn't matter how many "path to citizenship" bills are introduced on immigration if Democrats don't have the will to do it. I have no faith in Republicans supporting anything that doesn't give them more xenophobic laws in return.

Y'all really don't want kids in cages? Here's what you should demand then:

✔️End to hieleras (inhumane CBP processing centers)
✔️End to perreras (also "processing centers")
✔️End to family detention

This is Elena's baby. She is 5 months old baby girl. I met her at my house when we hosted several migrant families who were released by CBP. Elena and her spent 10 days in the hielera with no diapers and no clean water. She came out really sick because the cell was freezing cold.
