There’s a candidate forum in Brooks tonight. I’m collecting some wall swag. And I might tweet some stuff. Like the olden days… Image Moderator is reminding everyone to be respectful to candidates and neighbours. Almost ready to begin. Image

I know lots of people think Lich is being prosecuted for her politics. Some have even said enforcement is subjecting her to “treatment that is far outside the norm of how our courts and police behave.”

It’s not, they just didn’t care about how activists were treated before. Conservatives didn’t care about Amy’s story because Amy is an animal rights activist who was charged with attempted break and enter and attempted mischief.
Her bail conditions included a no contact order.

Watching the Covid update on Facebook because the notification came up first. The batshit signal must've shone brightly today, holy hell. "You said no vax passes - what's next concentration camps?"
"I'm not vaxxed and never will be. You better not step on my land because you won't be exiting it."
"I can't wait to see you hang!"
"Agenda 21/30 is being enacted more every day."
"Your [sic] going to jail."

So, about Derek Sloan’s news.

I saw the case numbers and decided to stay home BUT! @WSOnlineNews is live streaming on FB.

Let me just say the room is buzzing and now piano music fills the space. Can’t drown out the din though. #ableg #cdnpoli They announced that they’ll be staring in about 5 minutes OMG it is definitely packed.

“Alberta continues to take extraordinary measures to control the spread of the virus,” says UofA President Bill Flanagan.

I actually can’t tell if that was a troll - it was delivered expertly.

Money for universities is good news though. Especially for science. #ableg This update is on $20M for the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation, applied virology institute.

It’s rather uplifting to hear the gains they’ve been making in research and development in HepC vaccines. I lost a cousin to that a year ago yesterday🥲

JK: This is moving away from inquiry learning and a return to basic skills, a return to phonics which were banned in some curriculums. AL: I heard from a parent this weekend who said why are they learning like 18 different ways to do math? Can they not just learn the easiest way?
Q: how will this curriculum transition to core values?
AL: we are looking to ensure we build the strong foundation in K-6 then 7-10

Aaaaand we're back with #WIPAGM2021 James Albers and Dr. Dennis Modry to talk about the bylaw and policy documents. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli

Albers up first on Bylaws: wildrose.party/wp-content/upl…

Modry on policy: wildrose.party/wp-content/upl… Albers: the bylaws will allow for members to hold the political part of the party, leader and caucus, accountable.

Narrator: As in the leader does not "hold the pen".

#ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli The morning events will consist of speakers and the new board election.

O’Toole’s statement is quite good - strong, decisive.

It’s also a distraction and an attempt to brand the party with his politics, rather than the base who supports it. #cdnpoli conservative.ca/statement-from… Of particular note, there are two subjects in his statement. O’Toole personally and the CPC generally. In his “I” statements, he positions himself as a centrist (which doesn’t mean “middle”, it means holding views that are traditionally left or right at the same time).

FB live: Kenney defends “consolidating the administration of the investment of” teacher’s pensions. “The taxpayer is on the hook” if ATRF mismanages funds, he says. Correct me if I’m wrong, but ATRF didn’t lose billions over the last year. #ableg Says teachers should be grateful they have the security of defined pensions. Suggests it’ll save $20 million by consolidating administration and ATRF still gets to direct AIMCO.

Oh no - I uploaded a video so I have to break the thread:

Jk says 1400 people attended the virtual AGM.

He says his caucus the best group he’s ever worked with even though he was also part of Harper’s cabinet. Jason Kenney speaking style #UCPAGM2020

Telling a story about David Thompson who explored and mapped Alberta. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of his Métis wife.

Reading some quotes. Said Thompson was overwhelmed by the mountains and how to get to the west coast

Erin O’Toole is back to chat with the #UCPAGM2020 crowd. As soon as he stops talking about himself, I believe he’s going to do a Q&A.

He says if you’d have said “Wexit” five years ago, people would have looked at you funny. But says this is what 5yrs of Liberals gets you: EOT “only in Canada would we want to put people on the CERB rather than putting people back to work.”
Says Canada shut down the pandemic early warning system and had to rely on “open data from China”.

Back to the #UCPAGM2020 part... four in my tweet threads I believe

Moderators have apparently found missing videos of resolution proposals. So we’re catching up with those a little late... What the GIF. Anyway.

Update Article 8 - two changes to CA creation and operation

More missing videos 😬

Rationale: again allow CAs flexibility when President of CFO is unavailable please

Nay: who is in charge? Designate or CFO? Too confusing needs to be more precise

Committees again. Fundraising.

Yea: these are building a structure to assist elected council

Nay: fundraising committee is party only. Party is saying vote no. Rebuttal: should be part of the role of fundraising executive to coordinate fundraising with 87 CAs

Each constitutional document is focussed on one particular aspect of the governance of the party and association. Should have Simple majority to pass

Back for a Q&A from Kenney at the #UCPAGM2020
Q: masks don’t work can you and Dr. Hinshaw make a statement against Dr. Tams recommendations?

Jk: I’ve been critical of Dr.Tam when she gave bad advice, most of which came from WHO. Jk: China restricted travel within China but encouraged travel out of the country. We don’t have a mask mandate here in the province.

Q: is there anything we can do to combat the federal anti-pipeline regulations?

It’s that time again - governance policy! #UCPAGM2020

We’ve been warned that chat must remain respectful and unparliamentary language or disruption will be dealt with a warning and potential removal.

Seems I missed something last night... Page 36 - SR-01
Cleaning up language in the policy book.

Probably not the fun kind.

If you’re following along, policy debates are the original grammar police where people fight over the placement of commas, adding and removing one or more words for clarity.

Late to the #UCPAGM2020 party because I had a prior engagement. We’re on Policy 10, collecting our own taxes. Drew Barnes asks people to vote for. First speaker says he’s tired of dealing with people in other provinces at CRA so he’s for it. #ableg Next speaker is against. He says it’s just too expensive.

We aren’t being told whether the resolution is passing... that’s no fun.

Next up - private health care. First speaker, a Dr., says it’s in contravention of the Canada Health Act.
