A 🧵 that comprehensively and clearly illustrates the strategy of the Conservative Party (and their supporters) to defeat Justin Trudeau and get themselves elected…

A dental thread.

My parents are elderly.
They’re on a fixed income…with a very limited budget. They do their best to live very modestly.

Like many elderly people, their dental health has deteriorated.

#ElderlyDentalHealth They’ve both lost a lot of teeth and have resorted to using dentures. For now, they’re getting by with partials.

But as their dental health continues to deteriorate, the costs are mounting, and tough decisions need to be made.

I try and avoid cheap, tawdry comparisons between modern politics and Hitler’s Nazism, Stalin’s Communism, and Mussolini’s Fascism.

But in this case, ya gotta call a spade a spade.

#cdnpoli Comms Director for the CPC @SarahFischer__ has gone beyond blatant #propaganda / #disinformation.

She now sees fit to use language like “liquidation of a people” in order to describe the new Canadian #passport.

Think about this.

A thread…

This video has been making the rounds on Twitter.

This is @MichaelFordTO - Minister of Multiculturalism and nephew of @fordnation…highlighting the 900 people of Indian heritage that currently live in Ontario.

1/ 900. Nine. Zero. Zero.
In Ontario.

A quick google search indicates over 750,000 people of Indian heritage in the province. It took about 30 secs to find that info.

One would think the Minister of Multiculturalism would have access to the same info I have.

A Sunday Morning Doug Ford 🧵

It starts with simple questions:

How is Doug Ford still a thing?
How is he polling in the high 30s?
Do people not see the in-your-face corruption?

How is anyone in this province even remotely enamoured…

1/ …with a barely educated, barely literate, former strip mall hash dealer with a penchant for folksy populism, and blatant grift?

The man got elected on a platform of simply not being #KathleenWynne. And sadly, enough people in this province hated the thought…

Yesterday, I tweeted about How I’d hold @fordnation responsible if my parents got COVID.

This is still my position.

My mom has debilitating osteoporosis, as well as a series of other ailments. My dad is battling multiple myeloma, and is in desperate need…

…of a hip replacement - worn out by years of work in a shitty factory where fat cats got rich by exploiting his labour.

They’re vaxxed. They don’t go out much. And when they do, they wear masks.

They depend on me a lot, for transportation, for groceries…

An education 🧵…

Yesterday, I tweeted about a joke / prank that I played on my Gr. 10 history class. Based on some responses I got, I feel the need to clarify a few things, lest some misconceptions fester into fact.

Read on.

It was unit ‘test’ day…
Topic: Canada and WWI.
The “prank” involved making them think that they were going to write an essay in response to post-grad type history questions.

(See pics.)

The first pic popped up for approx 15 seconds. Then I flashed the second pic.

A rant/thread.
Bear with me…please.

I’m absolutely gobsmacked by what I’ve been seeing and hearing…especially these last few weeks. People who I would normally consider sane, educated, stable, well-informed, community minded, are now peddling blatant disinformation.

Many of them, and those that defend them, are passing it off as harmless ‘differences of opinion’.

If so, I’m missing something.

I just recently read a report that COVID patients are pulling vital resources away from paediatric patients, patients with…

Slimy, greasy strategy by a slimy, greasy politician. But are we really that surprised? From the moment this chump entered the political ring, didn’t we foresee stuff like this?

This guy on the basis of being the ‘anti-Wynne’…and to a large extent…

1/ …it was successful. There was lots of talk about gravy trains and ending the party with tax payer money. But you’d have be pretty naive and / or willfully ignorant to not see the cronyism and the grift.

Hwy 413 is a prime example. Look who stands to benefit.

This is an open message to:

It was kinda funny when Doug Ford showed up hawking cheap beer. Kinda. But it stopped being funny a long time ago.

Fast forward to 2021.
We now have a massive pile (words purposely chosen) of…

…failures, hostility, disinformation, and outright attacks on the very things that many hold dear in this province: healthcare, education, care of our elderly, key elements of our social safety net, and the environment to name but a few…

Someone sent me this. I’m very touched by it. And that person knows how much I appreciate it. So I’m following their lead by paying it forward.

If I didn’t mention you specifically, it’s nothing personal. Rather, I hope it’ll eventually reach others via the same process. Image @Homegrowngirl2

Please pay it forward.

In light of the sudden outcry for the (potentially) premature return to school by people who are ‘newly’ concerned about youth mental health...

I’ll echo the thoughts of many friends/colleagues when I say:
“Where were you before now?”

I’m reminded of a student... ...of mine from earlier in my career. She struggled with mental health issues and often flirted with suicide. In addition to reporting the situation (as my job required), there were a number of occasions where I counselled her, and encouraged her to ‘stay with us’...

An education thread.

This past week, as a ‘start-to-the-day-reflection’, I shared one of those “If the World Was A Village of 100 People” type videos with my class.

I’ve seen them before. But the stats are always sobering.
15% are illiterate.
13% have no clean water. 20% don’t have electricity. 25% don’t have adequate shelter.
75% don’t have internet access.
90% can’t access post secondary education.
A staggering 70% are malnourished.
1% are starving...a ‘small’ number, but that translates to 75 million people.

What does it all mean?

Please read / retweet this thread.

1. Nov 2020 - Doug Ford:
“We will be ready when vaccines arrive! Now it’s on the Feds to get them.”

2. Dec 2020 - vaccines start arriving, well before Ford and Brian Lilley expected them. 3. Misinformation campaign begins to put blame of Feds for vaccine delays.

4. Jan - Feb 2021 - Despite delays, more and more vaccines arrive. Lilley et al at the Sun continue to blame the Feds for reduced numbers of vaccines.
