Today, @housejudiciary is holding a hearing to examine the persistent problem of harassment and discrimination in the federal judiciary and explore what Congress can do to address it. (1/4)

The United States Courts are supposed to be a pillar of our democracy, built on justice and fairness. But it is becoming increasingly obvious that there is a crack in that foundation. (2/4)

Today, @housejudiciary is holding a markup for H.R. 350, the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2021: This bill creates three offices—one each within the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the FBI—to monitor, investigate, and prosecute cases of domestic terrorism.

Anyone who has gone to the grocery store recently has seen the price of food go up, with the price of meat, poultry, and eggs rising at a clip that far surpasses the rest. Why? Because those are the markets with the fewest competitors; dominated by just a few corporate giants. Due to unchecked consolidation, a few corporations own every link in the food supply chain. The beef, poultry, and pork processing markets are each dominated by four huge corporations. The grocery retail market similarly is concentrated in the hands of just a few companies.

As @POTUS and @VP discussed today, since the foundation of our nation, millions of our fellow citizens have fought and died to access the right to vote— our most fundamental freedom. Yet despite these sacrifices, anti-voter laws are being pushed through state legislatures by radicals who seek to deny millions of Americans access to the ballot box.

Read my statement on the recent reports that the Department of Justice inappropriately targeted journalists and Members of Congress.
nadler.house.gov/news/documents… It is outrageous that the Department of Justice may have used a criminal investigation as pretext to spy on journalists, Members of Congress, their families, and Congressional staff.

Today, @HouseJudiciary released our investigation into the Trump Admin’s family separation policy. What we uncovered was a policy marked by chaos, reckless incompetence, and intentional cruelty.

Read the report here: judiciary.house.gov/uploadedfiles/… Our investigation shows the extent to which the Trump Admin was willing to go to extreme lengths—including ripping children from the arms of their parents—to stop migrants fleeing violence from seeking protection in the U.S. nadler.house.gov/news/documents…

🚨@NYCHA has published a new lease for residents of Public Housing converting to Section 8. This lease was created in secret without public input. I'm demanding the agency hold public hearings so residents can be heard before being forced to accept it. (1/4) ImageImage Among the new provisions: if the private developer determines a tenant has committed "criminal activity," without a conviction, or even an arrest, they can seek to evict the household. Today, House Dems introduced the HEROES Act. The magnitude of COVID demands a sweeping response, which is why I'm proud to sponsor this bill that supports our hardest-hit communities, prioritizes our most vulnerable citizens+institutions, and invests in revitalizing our economy. The HEROES Act puts front line workers first. It amends the Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Program, ensuring that first responders who are disabled or die from COVID receive benefits. And it includes billions for @USPS, who need our support to continue serving all Americans.

COVID-19’s reach stretches far and wide, impacting America's mass transit, small businesses, students and student borrowers, and countless others. That's why I sent a list of COVID-19 legislative priorities to @SpeakerPelosi and @senatemajldr today.

Read my letter below: ImageImage As Congress works to support the American people during this trying period, we need to make sure that we're fighting for the people and the businesses that need our help the most. That means a few things:

The #2020Census kicks off this week! Beginning on March 12th, every household in the US will receive an invitation to participate in the Census–you can respond online, over the phone or via mail. Once you receive that invitation, you can respond online, by phone, or by mail. Why is it crucial for all New Yorkers to participate in #GetCountedNYC? Because the #2020Census results will determine how NY federal programs are funded! The more people that respond, the more $$ NY gets for:
🟢schools
🟢hospitals
🟢trains & buses
🟢housing
🟢highways & bridges

The number of coronavirus cases reported on American soil grows every day, including six in New York State, and the White House is unequipped and ill-prepared to handle the spread of the virus. I was, therefore, proud to join my colleagues in the House in passing an emergency spending package that will provide federal and state authorities with the funds they need to combat the pandemic. This funding package significantly exceeds the figure requested by the Trump Admin.

Today, Republicans introduced their #FairnessforAll Act which purports to protect LGBTQ civil rights, but in practice would enshrine & federally sanction anti-LGBTQ discrimination in nearly every way - healthcare, social services, housing, employment, education & more. #FairnessforAll Act would also roll back EXISTING protections against discrimination based on race, sex and religion – undermining key parts of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 – AND could preempt certain state & local protections. It is a truly terrible bill.

This morning the Supreme Court is hearing three cases to determine whether #LGBTQ workers are protected from discrimination under our nation’s sex non-discrimination laws, a decision that will have major consequences for our nation. #SCOTUS Someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity is intrinsically linked with their sex. It is impossible to discriminate against someone in a same-sex relationship without, by definition, taking their sex into consideration.

No one should have to choose btwn a paycheck and a healthy pregnancy. Proud to re-introduce #PregnantWorkersFairnessAct w/ @RepJohnKatko @RepLucyMcBath @HerreraBeutler and @BobbyScott to give pregnant workers reasonable accommodations to stay on the job. nadler.house.gov/news/documents… 25 states have passed bipartisan laws like #PWFA, but current federal law fails to protect pregnant workers. A study by @ABetterBalance found that in 2/3 of cases, courts held that employers could deny pregnant women simple accommodations in the workplace. abetterbalance.org/long-overdue/

Here is a link to the letter we received from Attorney General Barr. Seems like the Department of Justice is putting matters squarely in Congress’ court. judiciary.house.gov/sites/democrat… Barr says that the President may have acted to obstruct justice, but that for an obstruction conviction, “the government would need to proved beyond a reasonable doubt that a person, acting with corrupt intent, engaged in obstructive conduct”.

Over the last week, I have received over 5,000 letters from people all across the country expressing their opposition to @realDonaldTrump's cruel, un-American family separation policy. Image When the "zero tolerance" policy was enacted, I made an unannounced visit on Father’s Day to the Elizabeth Detention Facility in NJ where I spoke with fathers who had been separated from their children. Many did not know when—if ever—they would be reunited with their kids.

We cannot call what is happening “random” acts of violence. 1/ When politicians no longer abide the social norms that demand civility and respect for those with different views, backgrounds and beliefs, it sets a tone and lays the groundwork for emboldening those who are driven to such despicable actions. 2/

Read my letter to @HouseDemocrats Colleagues, offering a legal analysis and rebuttal from @HouseJudDems to the deeply misleading #NunesMemo. ImageImageImageImage 1. The FISA court found probable cause to believe that Carter Page is an agent of a foreign power. Nothing in the #NunesMemo rules out the possibility that considerable evidence beyond the Steele dossier helped the court reach that conclusion.

Mr. McGahn’s reported conduct is completely unacceptable. The role of the Attorney General is to uphold the law — including the rules prohibiting @TheJusticeDept officials from participating in cases in which they have a conflict of interest. 2/ @TheJusticeDept Either Mr. McGahn knows this, and decided to interfere with the Russia investigation anyway, or he doesn’t. Neither case is acceptable, and he should be removed from his post immediately. 3/
