OK...so now that Donald Trump has expressly refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power should he lose the election to Joe Biden (𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭), some things now need to be said very clearly.
(thread) 1 First of all, when the sitting US President (chief of the entire military) threatens to not leave office 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 should we vote him out, we're not talking abt a scathing editorial in the NY Times here.
It means people are going to die. 𝘏𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘦𝘴. 𝙐𝙨.

I’ll just say this for posterity, it won’t be a popular opinion today but there’s no ambiguity here:

I expect @JoeBiden will pick @GovMLG for VP.

1) I’ll be *SURPRISED* if he doesn’t pick her, but
2) I’ll be *DISAPPOINTED IN HIM* if he picks @KamalaHarris.

[Final 7.30.20] The ultimate strategic electoral contrast between these two:

@GovMLG: “woman of color” to voters who care about that kind of thing; “white woman” to those who don’t.

@KamalaHarris: “woman of color” to voters who don’t care she’s not white; “black woman” to those who do. ImageImage

If you’re wearing a mask in public to avoid catching #COVID, your NOSE is more important to cover than your closed mouth if your mask doesn’t cover both. Obviously, what you should do is get a better mask, but your nose is a hole that is always open. Your mouth has a natural shield that closes, called your lips.

And now...a VP pitch you haven’t heard before!!
NM Gov Michelle Lujan Grisham would be a very capable & competent chief exec & partner to @JoeBiden. She’d reflect our ethnic/gender diversity as modern Dems & Americans. ... Image Gov. Lujan Grisham has a demonstrated ability to speak to the entire political spectrum (i.e. all the way from the liberal socialist Dems to conservative anti-Trump Repubs).

She’s a trusted, catastrophe-tested, battle hardened, just plain likable leader of diverse Americans. Image

I used to think of myself as a strong liberal. But reality is not like that. Now I’m something else.
[thread] 2/ That’s based on what general policy outcomes I would consider ideal if we had unlimited support and resources. In a better world I would have supported Bernie Sanders.

(thread)There’s clearly a big push at the moment to properly acknowledge people of color in entertainment being passed over for white actors.
I understand the need for characters like Apu (Simpsons) to be retired or recast, as they are, at kindest, a caricature of a race... but please let’s think about how unhelpful decisions like Kristen Bell’s are, to drop from a production like “Central Park” already a season in, because she is white, voicing a biracial character.

WARNING: PROVOCATIVE COMMENTARY WILL BE USED IN THIS THREAD ABOUT BERNIE SANDERS SUPPORTERS. IT IS NOT CRITICISM. PLEASE UNDERSTAND MY INTENT, AND IF YOU DON'T, PLEASE ALLOW ME THE CHANCE TO EXPLAIN IT. My introduction:
“I’m here to tell you a story, and at first it’s going to sound ridiculous—but the longer I talk, the more rational it’s going to appear.”

We need to get something out in the open right now.
We need to understand who Bernie Sanders supporters are, and more importantly, who they're not. (thread)
morningconsult.com/2020/04/10/san… First, let’s understand who they aren’t. They are *NOT* disillusioned former Bernie supporters who’ve “gone rogue.” We know this because real Bernie supporters en masse now support Biden like he does.

Bernie Sanders supports Joe Biden. Anyone who says they won't support him now is NOT a Sanders supporter.

They were RADICAL from the start who only "supported" him bc he was the most left. They never cared about Bernie, they only wanted chaos. "Bernie Bro" quite literally means "troll" and always has.

Real Berners aren't who the term was meant to include. Think about it...real Berners now support Biden bc he does.

"Bernie Bros" are still the same asshole trolls they were when they were pretending to support Bernie.

Ok Twitter, I'm calling your bluff. Show me the groundswell of black Americans' outrage over anything Joe Biden said that isn't coming from people connected in some way to Sanders or Trump's campaigns who have a clear incentive to take Biden down.

Show me. I'll wait. What black people heard when Biden spoke is exactly what he meant, and is exactly the truth: "if you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't [likely to be welcome in the] black [community]."

“I want him to address it, and admit it, and modify his behavior”

So, basically she wants him to...stop...*not* assaulting women? Her claims are not exactly, um, “broadly substantiated” among women who’ve been around him... #IBelieveJoe sanluisobispo.com/news/politics-… #WomenCanLieToo

OK, that’s it. After seeing what Corey “<sad trombone noise>” Lewandowski wrote about the Tara Reade accusation, I’m ready to say that I FULLY BELIEVE JOE BIDEN. When a remorseless muck leech like Lewandowski tries to claim the moral high ground under #MeToo against our people’s choice to end Donald Trump’s vile subjugation of the very *concept* of human decency, ASK YOURSELF WHY HE’S DOING THAT.

The following U.S. states currently remain at significant risk of #Covid_19 outbreak--that is, their most recent daily infection count is within 7 days of their approximate daily peak infection count, peak is within 3-5 days (starred), or is within 1-2 days of peak (double-star): (note: anomalously high 1-or-2 day periods aren't considered effective peak infection...this is not about playing statistical games, it's about assessing a crisis)

This is such a mindblowing statistic. Can you even imagine how much of the coming #SecondGreatDepression we could have avoided if #DonaldJHoover hadn’t dismantled our pandemic response team and spent MONTHS denying the threat?

HE PREVENTED US FROM PREPARING FOR THIS. Image The worst week of the Great Depression saw 665,000 unemployment claims, and we’ve been talking about it ever since. Last week saw FIVE TIMES that number.

Comedians had joked Trump would be the end of America. I guess the real joke is THEY WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG.

For all those tonight parroting the delusion Sanders somehow still has a chance, ALLOW ME TO SLAP YOU IN THE FACE WITH REALITY:
He needs at least 57% of remaining delegates. 23 states have already voted. How many of those did he win 57% of the vote? ZERO.

IT'S. OVER. #VoteJoe These are Sanders' BEST FIVE states so far in vote share:
ND: 53%, VT: 51%, ID: 43%, NV: 40%, CO: 37%.

These are Biden's best five states, by contrast:
MS: 81%, AL: 63%, MO: 60%, MI: 53%, VA: 53%.

NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE IN VOTE SHARE. #DemDebate

@Banannarama42 @ResisterSis20 I live in New Jersey. I don't get to vote until June, I think. That's why I've been vocal about Biden from the beginning, because I've always known that by the time it got to me, it wouldn't have mattered at all anyway. @Banannarama42 @ResisterSis20 I get your point, but to be fair that's more of a state-level logistic thing, not really voter suppression. I think we've learned a lot about primary elections this cycle...no more caucuses, no more early voting, and there should just be like 3-5 super tuesdays in a row. 👍

I know opinions are hot about this topic, but this suggests to me that if Dem number crunchers determine it might nudge a few more Senate candidates over the finish line, it might be advantageous for us to consider the possibility Biden’s optimal VP might be a young white man. Hear me out: Biden said pretty point-blank that his (presumably first) Supreme Court nominee would be a black woman.

This means there might be less of a demographic necessity to pick a black woman as VP...

I’ve now heard a shocking number of Bernie supporters insist he wasn’t well received by yesterday’s debate audience because somehow Bloomberg apparently *paid them off* and no, I’m not kidding.

Here’s a compendium of my own evidence why that defense is preposterous. #DemDebate https://t.co/cKYFpwh5js
