On the new @SexOutLoudRadio, I welcome veteran anti-racist activist Jordan Flaherty to discuss his book No More Heroes: Grassroots Responses to the Savior Mentality (published by @haymarketbooks @AKPressDistro). Image No More Heroes traces savior mentality in pop culture, political movements, non-profits incl. Batman, Teach for America, the flood of young white activists to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Occupy Wall Street, #BlackLivesMatter, and the growth of anti sex trafficking orgs.

On the new @SexOutLoudRadio, @albtweetin, host of Bodies podcast, talks about the women whose stories she shares & their medical mysteries. It’s a fascinating show where the interviews are deeply personal, yet what we learn has far-reaching consequences beyond 1 person’s life. Image She covers #painfulsex, #medicaldevices, #thepill, #vaginalmesh #menopause, #ALS & #PGAD (persistent genital arousal disorder). She centers her subjects so they have the space & power to tell their truths.

Are you a @SexOutLoudRadio listener? Do you love the show, our diverse guests & scintillating topics? First, thanks for listening; we appreciate each and everyone of you. As you know, @raymondj & I recently began independently producing the show & distributing it through @libsyn. Image Creating this show takes a lot of hard work, but it’s so rewarding. Since we left VoiceAmerica, we’ve lost a few folks who only listened on the VA app & didn’t move with us. We’d like to ask you to help us grow our now independent podcast listenership!

As I’ve been going through old files, I stumbled upon these gems. When I was a baby dyke at Wesleyan in 1992, I was working on my undergraduate senior thesis about butch/femme lesbian identity (my advisor was @TenuredRadical!). ImageImage Write a letter to one of my idols, @PatrickCalifia, on the off chance I might get a response. Low & behold, Califia sent a handwritten letter & some unpublished poetry. I practically lost my mind. I’d read everything he had written incl. the unmatched, groundbreaking Macho Sluts.

I think today is my day to have a meltdown. I'm overwhelmed. I know I have a tremendous amount of privilege which includes safe & stable housing, food, prescriptions, health insurance & chosen family who have reached out with so much love. I know there are people in much worse shape than I am. I’m worried about low wage & hourly wage workers, healthcare workers, service industry, adult industry & sex workers—so many of my friends are artists, freelancers, &self-employed.

I’ve been going through my archives of old letters, journal pages and various historical documents of my life as I write my memoir. I wanted to share this one with you. Before I was born, my parents made this flyer and held a “Name the Little Creature” Contest wfriends & family. Image They decided they would pick my name before my birth & they didn’t want to know my sex (or what doctors assumed was my sex & would write on my birth certificate). So they wanted what they referred to as “multi-purpose/unisex names.” In 1971. That’s how I became Tristan Taormino.

As some of you know, I've been working on my memoir for nearly a year. There have been bouts of raging self doubt, debilitating writer's block, delays based only on the necessity of supporting myself, & promising breakthroughs. patreon.com/tristantaormino Image I’ve never really experienced writers’ block in such a dramatic way as I have w/this book! It's harder than any of the others I have written. It’s quite emotional & I run into roadblocks whenever I sit down to work on it.

I have been processing some heavy stuff. On Saturday afternoon, someone was shot and killed in front of the house across the street. Eli and I were home and heard the shots clearly. About an hour later I heard about the murder of one of my colleagues in the sex ed world. My thoughts go out to the loved ones of both victims. In the 12 hours that followed, I witnessed dozens of cops, a team of SWAT officers w/guns drawn surrounding the house across the street, 2 military-style armored vehicles on standby,

Since we stayed at the south end of Isla Mujeres, it was a short walk to Punta Sur. Although it was a cloudy day, it’s such a beautiful spot that it didn’t matter. Punta Sur is the site of the remains of a temple (that dates back to the 1500s) dedicated to the Goddess Ixchel, ImageImageImage the Mayan Goddess of the moon, fertility, medicine & happiness. The island was known as a sanctuary for the Goddess, folklore says women traveled here to do rituals & leave offerings. Legend has it that its name comes from the many carved statues of women found on the island

We had one beautiful weather day on Isla Mujeres & I went on a great snorkeling trip (thanks to Isla Fun Tours & @Jenny_Block for the hook up!). We made 3 stops: Farito Reef, MUSA Underwater Museum of Art & Manchones Reef. The water was warm, calm, clear & full of beautiful fish. Image MUSA Underwater Museum of Art was unveiled in 2010 & conceptualized as an artifical reef where coral, seaweed, and algae could grow, preserving the nearby Manchones Reef which is dying in large part because of tourism. The idea was to create another snorkel & diving destination.

Mexico Day 5: Today I recorded an episode of my podcast Sex Out Loud in front of a live audience at #swingsetdesire and I was joined by a special guest cohost: Matie!! Image This show is one of my favorites of the entire year because the people who show up are always willing to share their hearts, be vulnerable, and really tell it like it is. Plus, listeners get to have a sense of who is at the event. #SwingsetDesire

Mexico Day 4: Today, Matie @SelfServeToys & I co-taught a G-Spot and Squirting class! We had such an amazing crowd, & our teaching styles are so compatible that we had great chemistry and flow. After talking a bunch (& demonstrating some positions, see photo) #SwingsetDesire ImageImage We then formed 3 groups: 1) me doing a demo on Tonya 2) Matie doing a solo demo that wowed the crowd 3) anyone who wanted to try out techniques they learned or any of the fantastic dildos Matie brought for show & tell. I adopted Bodhi from the wonderful folks @PetRescuePDG. He stayed in a foster mom’s house which set the foundation for his good dog skills. They emailed me today to ask for an update. What did I say? We are practically inseparable & he has been on trips to North Carolin & Chicago He loves his big sister Moxie; she has figured out a way for them to play tug & for him to win 50% of the time even though she’s 42 lbs. He gets along with every dog he meets. We graduated from basic obedience school & I’m hoping to do agility training with him.

Happy #worldsmentalhealthday everyone. I have lived with severe, chronic Major Depressive Disorder and anxiety for 25+ years. More recently, I have experienced PTSD symptoms from trauma. Sometimes my mental health symptoms are absolutely debilitating, other times they are manageable, and sometimes I even feel amazing. Most days it’s some combination.

Last night, I said fuck bronchitis, went out with Dara and had the absolute pleasure of seeing the Feral Femme Tour at Cheetahs hosted by the hysterical & brilliant @JacqTheStripper & @kristenkorvette. Image The show featured a book reading, stand up comedians, a witchy incantation, hot dancing (including @thiccstrip) — it was all divine. One of the best events I’ve been to all year. When each person took the stage, piles of dollar bills flooded the stage all around them.

I’m home sick with a bad case of bronchitis (ugh) and finally catching up on posts about Atlanta. Before @sexdownsouthatl, I attended @LatinoSexuality Bianca Laureano’s ANTE UP! Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR) taught by @askGOODY & @Lexxsexdoc (pictured). Goody & Dr. Lexx created & held space for all of us and lead & taught in a really accessible way. The curriculum was crafted with an intersectional lens & different from any other SAR I’ve attended or heard about. The media clips we saw were incredibly diverse & thought-provoking

This is a painful but also illuminating example of how white supremacist capitalism is working exactly as it was designed. PLEASE READ THESE ACCOUNTS. If all you read is my white lady analysis of them, you're valuing my voice over the voices of POC. medium.com/@evyan.whitney… But I do find it useful to share my thoughts about some of what's at play here, since it illustrates how white supremacy plays out on an interpersonal level.

I am very late to Game of Thrones; I just started watching over Memorial Day weekend. I am on Season 3 — no fucking spoilers, please. I have a major bone to pick with all the full frontal nudity: there is a glaring problem. Everyone’s pubic area is very well groomed. They’ve gone to all the trouble to create realism in some aspects of this magical world with thoughtful, meticulous sets, costumes, hair and makeup. They make the hair on people‘s heads dirty and overgrown which makes sense given the time period...
