Ze dlje casa spremljamo proteste Nizozemskih kmetov, zoper nacrte nizanja dusikovih emisij. Zapleteno (a res neizogibno) vprasanje @n1slovenija Krajsa 🧵

Happy to share our new #openaccess paper on mapping global patterns of land use decision-making @IVM_VU @VU_science @acwfs_VU @ELSenviron doi.org/10.1016/j.gloe…

Together with @peterverburg11 we studied how contextual conditions can explain why and how we change land use. 1/9 We found out, that differences in land use decision-making can (to a large extent) be explained by local geographic characteristics. 2/9

Finished a great #zoomclass in the Sustainability and Environmental Change Minor here at @VUamsterdam today! What was supposed to be a 30min feedback session, turned into an 1.5 hour of in depth questions and great recommendations on how we can decrease our land footprint. The students have shown good knowledge on what drives land use change, but were shocked at the impact of beef and dairy...especially cheese always disappoints them - particularly the Dutch students :) #justdutchthings

Over 2.5 million people in Kazakhstan depend on timber, clean water, erosion control and other ecosystem services provided by forests. Restoring and increasing the forest cover in the country is however difficult due to harsh soil, water and climate conditions and frequent fires. @VU_IVM and @WolfsCompany, together with @UNDPKAZ @UNDP are analysing how we can manage forests in Kazakhstan in a more sustainable way, ensuring that the future generation will be able to benefit from forestry, while at the same time protecting nature Image

I present our new #openaccess paper on the global spatial distribution of organic farmers! Together with @peterverburg11 @VU_IVM and Koen Tieskens @BUSPH we analysed what influences the location of organic farmers
doi.org/10.1016/j.agsy… @GlobalLandP dP @IFOAMorganic Image We collected tens of thousands of certificates of organic crop producers from public registries all around the world. By using advanced spatial statistics we then studied the socio-economic, climate and soil contexts of the locations of organic farmers.

Happy to share our #openaccess paper on why and how we change the land use in @IOPenvironment! Together with @peterverburg11 @JvVliet @VU_IVM and others from @GlobalLandP, we analysed decision-making behind land use change (thread)
doi.org/10.1088/1748-9… We identified 758 different decision-makers from 315 peer-reviewed papers all around the world. Most of the papers come from the domains of #environmentalscience, #agriculture and #geography (but also #economics, #conservation and #forestry!) Image
