Florida now has 103,506 COVID-19 infections and rising. The weekly average of deaths is now 35 per day, up from 31 a week ago.

The pandemic is not going away, and there was a lot of news on that front today. Here's the latest from the @TB_Times (thread): Pinellas County added 13 coronavirus deaths on Tuesday. There were 67 deaths recorded statewide.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, however, still says the rise in cases is due to expanded testing.

Tonight, police broke up protests in St. Petersburg and Tampa with crowd control weapons and arrested demonstrators.

But this time, officers detained and restrained two @TB_Times reporters: @divyadivyadivya and @JayCridlin.

In Tampa, @TB_Times reporter @divyadivyadivya was detained along with dozens of protesters.

She identified herself as a journalist and her press badge was around her neck when an officer used a bike to push her to the ground.

Her hands were zip tied behind her back.

I’m trying find a piece of equipment I’ve lost which led me to clean out my old reporter backpack/hurricane go bag. I didn’t find what I’m looking for, but I did discover my own journalism time machine. Thread:

Found an old air card that I, uh, forgot to turn in 😬. Fortunately Verizon discontinued it so the TBT ain’t been paying the bill all this time. #ProTip reporters: Never give back your aircard. Make them pry it from your cold, dead fingers. Those pens still work tho!
