Last week, @EnergyInstitute published the new Statistical Review of World Energy. And it shows, yet again, that there is no energy transition. These 9 charts published in my latest Substack, show alt-energy still isn't taking market share from hydrocarbons. 1/12
But first, a shoutout to Rasheed Wallace, who coined the phrase, "ball don't lie."
The ball don’t lie.
Neither do the numbers in the Statistical Review. 2/12

Vaclav Smil is the anti-Kardashian. He is also a slayer of the bullshit about energy and power that has become accepted wisdom in media, academia, and among politicians and policymakers.
My latest. And a short thread 1/x
The notion of net zero is among the most pungent examples of that caca de toro. The Biden administration, 21 states, and about 100 cities have said they will achieve net zero by 2050. 2/x

In these charts, I abide by W. Edwards Deming’s commandment: “In God we trust, all others bring data.” The numbers I’m presenting aren’t my numbers, they are THE numbers.
My latest.
A thread 1/12
The concept of the energy transition is essentially a Western conceit. The U.S. and EU are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on programs like the Inflation Reduction Act and the Energiewende to fund buildouts of solar, wind, batteries, and tutti-fruity-colored hydrogen, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the world will do the same. 2/12

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it one more time: Electric vehicles are The Next Big Thing, and they always will be. My latest, with a thread (1/11)
There is nothing new about EVs. The history of the EV is a century of failure tailgating failure. 2/11

My latest.
CA residential prices jumped nearly 12% last year alone. Wind & solar generation has gone up 8x since 2008. But the carbon intensity of power generation isn't falling & low-income ratepayers are subsidizing the rich.
A thread. 1/8
These seven charts tell the story. 2/8

My latest. Last week, @AirDistrict approved regs banning #natgas furnaces & water heaters. It's latest example of CA policymakers forcing residents to use electricity instead of gas. These regs are happening while CA's electricity costs are soaring. 1/x robertbryce.substack.com/p/california-s…
Two weeks before the BAAQMD passed its ban on natural gas appliances, the Energy Information Administration released data showing that California’s residential electricity prices jumped by 14.7% in 2022. 2/x

My latest on Substack:
Last Tues, @rewiringamerica announced that it hired @StaceyAbrams to help the group “launch and scale a national awareness campaign and a network of large and small communities working to help Americans go electric.” 1/x robertbryce.substack.com/p/the-dark-mon…@RewiringAmerica is part of the NGO-industrial-corporate-climate complex that, as I reported here last month, is now spending some $4.5 billion per year to promote anti-industry policies. Here's a link to that piece: robertbryce.substack.com/p/the-anti-ind…

Last week, BP released its annual Statistical Review & the report shows, yet again, that electricity is the world’s most important & fastest-growing form of energy. In '21, electricity generation grew by a record 1,577 TWh
/1 thehill.com/opinion/energy…
That's an increase of 6.2% over 2020. For perspective, last year’s increase in electricity production was greater than the electricity output of France, Germany and Britain combined. /2

Here's my latest in @RealClearEnergy on the ongoing backlash against big renewables. Butler Cty, OH, banned #wind & #solar projects in 12 townships. The ban marks the 344th rejection of wind in the US over the past decade. @LinowesLisa
realclearenergy.org/articles/2022/…@RealClearEnergy@LinowesLisa As I have reported many times, the raging backlash against the renewable industry doesn’t fit the convenient narrative that wind and solar are “green” and that they are “cheaper” than traditional forms of energy production. /2

My latest, in @RealClearEnergy re surging global coal consumption
The global energy crisis has resulted in a spasm of plain talk. Last week, Vaclav Bartuška, the Czech Ambassador-at-Large for energy security, told a group of reporters
(Thread) 1/x
realclearenergy.org/articles/2022/…@RealClearEnergy “If there is a gas cut out this winter, we will burn anything we can to keep our people warm and to make electricity.” Bartuška said aloud what has become obvious over the past months: climate change concerns are taking a backseat to economic considerations. h/t @energybants

My latest @RealClearEnergy :
If you think the world is moving #beyondcoal think again...over the past few weeks, China & India have announced plans to increase their domestic #coal production by a combined total of 700M tons/yr. @JudeClemente@SierraClub
My latest @forbes: EU Finally Admits Nat Gas & Nuclear Are Key To Decarbonization
It is a "tacit acknowledgment by European policymakers of the energy disaster that is now shaking the region. But it’s also far too late in coming.” @chrishelman
forbes.com/sites/robertbr…@Forbes@chrishelman Europe cannot — will not — move to “a predominantly renewable-based future.” The never-ending claims that Europe, or any other region with a large economy, can run solely on “clean energy technologies like wind and solar,” are not based on history, math, or physics.
