If you care about any of the following:
#Fairness and #Integrity
#Honesty in #HigherEd
#Liverpool and #Wellbeing
Can you please RT?
👇 It pains me to have to tweet the following about the University where I have spent 18 largely happy years. I am still an honorary professor there and I want it to remain an honour.

This highly cited 2010 @acsnano article reports the first MD simulations of gold nanoparticles with lipid membranes.
pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10… Let's look at how they justify the research.

They say "applications have been growing over the past 5 years" and give references [1-5], but ref 1-5 just make similar promises. 10 years later these applications which were supposed to be growing still do not exist.

Thread.

Dear #Liverpool - the red, #antiracist city, that proudly denies to far right racists the mere possibility of walking in its streets. 🙌🙌🙌

I know you will be there on the 28/03 to protest against Salvini. liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool… And I will be there too. Just as I was in 2017 where the EDL was unable to get out of Liverpool train stations...

@LiamThorpECHO Thread.
I genuinely do not understand this editorial. It correctly lists some of the terrible consequences of austerity and the risks of another Conservative government, whilst barely mentioning Brexit at all. @LiamThorpECHO The EU has transformed our city, something that the Echo has well-documented. And Brexit will be a disaster for us. Whether it is a Labour Brexit or a Conservative Brexit.

Arthur Taylor introducing a very exciting week of science with the second workshop of @renaltoolbox
Project funded by the #EU bringing to Liverpool young scientists from across Europe and the world. First morning is statistics training. Marta Garcia-Finima starts by hammering the message that high IF doesn't mean you can trust data; cites Cressey, Nature, 2015.

@psobolewskiPhD Fig 3 is the most convincing. It shows some photothermal killing dependent on cell type and laser power. No statistics. @psobolewskiPhD finally, ponder the last line #17's abstract:
"both efficient cancer cell diagnostics and selective photothermal therapy are realized at the same time."

Diagnostics and therapy achieved? These are (very poor) experiments on *cell lines*. The hype is breathtaking.

In this thread (continued), I am looking back at highly cited (over 1000 citations) 'historical' (prior to 2008) bionano papers, in particular those that deal with nanoparticles & cells. Comments most welcome. #bionano #NanoBubble. Some background on selection of papers + comments on the first 10 papers here

In this thread, I will be looking back at highly cited (over 1000 citations) 'historical' (prior to 2008) bionano papers, in particular those that deal with nanoparticles & cells. Comments most welcome. #bionano #NanoBubble The set of 31 papers considered was identified as follows: WoS search for "Nanoparticle*" [1900-2008, only articles and letters] => 75,260 results of which 181 have over 1,000 citations.
Out of these 57 have a bio angle, e.g. DNA, corona, tumour, cells, etc
