A short 🧵 on irresponsible media and what is happening to #Gaza's hospitals today.
1/ On Wednesday @PaulNuki wrote in @Telegraph that that the Indonesian Hospital is “empty of patients” of patients and being used “to wage war” by militant groups. He said: "Taking it down with an air strike to finish the fighting must surely be tempting"

Some politicians continue to argue that it is 'not the time' for a ceasefire in #Gaza, even with thousands dead.

So here's a thread of major organisations, statespersons and other notables showing leadership and calling for a #CeasefireNOW. I'll try to update regularly.

🧵👇 1. @UNICEF ("Gaza has become a graveyard for thousands of children")

An update from @MedicalAidPal's Gaza team this morning: Since Israel's illegal evacuation order yesterday, shelters in the middle area and south are overflowing. Many have no food, no water, no mattresses or blankets, no functioning toilets

1/
Many just sleeping in the streets having evacuated suddenly. Homes opened up for the displaced have 30+ people per apartment, barely enough space to lie down and no provisions. Some considering returning to their homes in evacuated areas even if these are under bombardment

Our hearts break for the families of the 21 people, including 10 children, killed in #Gaza by a fire in Jabalia refugee camp. Such a tragic accident, and one that is sadly all too common in Gaza.

🧵1/
bbc.co.uk/news/world-mid… Fires and burns injuries are a significant risk to life in Gaza. It is one of the most densely populated places on Earth - 5,453 people/km2 - particularly in refugee camps where buildings are often closely packed and poorly built. When fires start, many are quickly at risk

Apropos of nothing, here's a list of the organisations, experts, and other notable persons who have concluded that Israel is imposing a regime of apartheid on Palestinians, or recently warned that this may soon arise.

Call me cynical, but I wouldn't declare an "end" to mapping raids on Palestinian homes until Palestinians themselves report the change. Yadai decided they can still happen if "operational necessity" which the army interprets v broadly. Would love to see some clear-headed analysis Remember this? In actual fact last year saw a 4-year high in demolitions. The Civil Administration announcement was pure PR.

Expect much more of this: the steady automation of the occupation, which requires fewer 'boots on the ground' and is sold to the world as humanitarian improvement.

Meanwhile privacy becomes meaningless to Palestinians and protest impossible. Those "new technologies" include facial recognition tech for live surveillance and checkpoint control in the West Bank. If you control the population registry and can automatically track someone's movement from their face in real time, what need is there to raid their home?

I genuinely don't get it. Why is one side's killing of children condemned but the other's only regretted?

Condemn the killing of children, whoever does it! It's not hard! "I condemn Israel's killing of 64 children in #Gaza. And I also condemn Hamas' killing of two children in Israel." Anything short of that is inhuman and deeply, deeply racist.

I thought by now we'd be past valuing some children's lives more than others'.

A comprehensive overview of the impact of Israel's assault (and long-standing violations inc. closure) on healthcare in #Gaza from @AlMezanCenter: mezan.org/en/post/23989

"Israel’s violations of international law ... clearly amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. " The healthcare situation in #Gaza:
🚧 Israel has inhibited entry of medical supplies, exit of cancer and cardiac patients
💊 Critical shortages to 45% of essential drugs and 33% of medical supplies
🦠 #COVID19 testing suspended due to damage to Al Rimal clinic labs

Watching the UK parliament discuss a ceasefire in #Gaza.

Many rightly highlighting humanitarian suffering, need for action. But at some point soon MPs will have to reckon with the fact that "recognition of Palestine" is not high among the calls being made by most Palestinians Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd say pursuing accountability and justice, supporting the ICC, ending blockade, ending forcible transfer, meaningful countermeasures vs Israeli violations, suspending arms trade, a human rights-based foreign policy, are all much higher on the list.

This is disgusting. The Palestinian cause is one of liberation and rights, not racism and misogyny. Get that flag off your car. The undeniable moral case of the Palestinian cause is its most powerful weapon (among few) vs the overwhelming might of Israel, its army, its superpower diplomatic cover and its economic power. These actions undermine that moral power and thus undermine Palestinians. Enraging.

I'm going to start a thread 🧵 of reported violations against healthcare personnel and facilities in #Palestine (there have been numerous reports in #WestBank, #Gaza and #Jerusalem already). 🚑. I'll give sources. Please share if there are any I've missed. 👇

Hi @MaajidNawaz, I'd advise caution when sharing anything referencing NGO Monitor. These accusations against MAP are grossly misleading, we are a humanitarian and development organisation and we categorically do not have links to terrorism. Cc @DrRosena

map.org.uk/news/archive/p… As well as our programmes helping provide healthcare for Palestinians in Lebanon & the oPt, @MedicalAidPal highlights the barriers to their rights to health and dignity, including those inherent in the occupation and its restrictions to freedom of movement
