As the cops surround #ED's #Mumbai office, those shedding crocodile tears for #SanjayRaut must make a small attempt to understand the #PatraChawl scam. It is a classic case in which politicians and builders destroy the lives of poor residents to make millions. A thread Siddharth Nagar, popularly known as Patra Chawl, is located in the northern Mumbai suburb of Goregaon. It had a total of 672 houses, spread over an area of 47 acres. In 2008, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) took up the redevelopment project.

Love when Delhi journos do this romanticism of #Mumbai in the Congress mouthpiece.
So here is my two paise take (I'm born and brought up in this city):
Mumbai is dead long ago. We are choked. The blame should be on 'secular' Sena. They have ruled us for 35 years and messed it up. #Bollywood is just one industry based in #Mumbai. It is under attack on the war on drugs. But truthfully, it is dishing out shit for years. The war is that people don't want to see this shit despite the opening of multiplexes. That's the war Bollywood has to win. Will they?

Watched 'The Iron Lady' over the weekend (again) and the conversation between Margaret Thatcher (Meryl Streep won an Oscar for this) and her doctor has never been relevant than today as the woko haram takes over entire public discourse. You are in or cancelled. Thatcher: 'One of the greatest problems of our age is that we are governed by people who care more about feelings than they do about thoughts and ideas.
Now, thoughts and ideas, that interests me.
Watch your thoughts, for they will become actions.

#BestCM to chair cabinet tomorrow and sources state that the statewide lockdown could well be extended till May 15. But the bigger issue facing #MVA is whether to give vaccines free for all citizens. And the internal mess in communication (as usual) has made things worst Loud mouth Nawab Malik has already announced the free scheme. Prince did the same and deleted the tweet. #BestCM seems to be in favour, but the finance ministry held by Ajit Pawar seems be more worried about the Rs 7000 crore 'burden' on the state. So what will be the final call?

This is what I hear in majority of journo whatsapp groups - Gosh we are suffering in #WestBengal. There have been no jobs. But no, we don't want outsiders. Seriously?!
I've been in media for 30 years and in my 22 years as a journalist in Mumbai, this is what I saw -

Thread Majority of editors in print and TV were Bongs. And they were clear in hiring more Bongs - colleagues, families and even current and former girlfriends. Such was the trend that we joked that the official language in Times, DNA would be Bengali. The strategy was effective

#Maharashtra's principal health secretary Dr Pradeep Vyas has been under fire by no less than 21 ministers in #BestCM cabinet. His refusal to act fast on key issues like building oxygen plants, remdesevir procurement is causing unprecedented crisis
facebook.com/mymahanagar/vi… Holding crucial post since 2017, Vyas is accused of negative, time-consuming approach at work. Despite complaints, #BestCM has refused to remove him, while shuffling many IAS officers, raising eyebrows. Many ministers are openly calling Vyas - the villain of #COVID19 crisis

Every time I meet journalists (former colleagues) the conversation jumps to - 'India needs a strong opposition' and is a moral obligation for all of us to strengthen the Congress.
Seriously, why should journos take on this task? How does it fit in their work profile? Did we take on this task when the BJP was down to two MPs in the Parliament? Was it important for all of us to pitch in to strengthen the BJP? Was it a national obligation?
NO
They worked hard. Learned from their mistakes, build a cadre and are back in power. Modi is not ABV

Saying it again - #Bollywood is all worked up because it cannot control the narrative anymore. Journos covering tinsel town know all dark secrets but cannot write thanks to massive business their org get from movies. This fixed match was broken by social media and @republic Editors, journos covering Bollywood ask soft questions to keep stars happy for getting access and ensure they come for their award shows. That's the main job. Majority of magazine covers are paid. You think these guys would even dare to expose inside stories? Nope

According to compounder fav @rautsanjay61 #Mumbai is all because #Thackeray and #Pawar brand!
What an insult to the hard-working, inclusive and entrepreneurship spirit of the financial capital of India. Mumbaikars go through hardships 2 make two ends meet as corruption rules One political dynasty has ruled richest civic corporation in India for 3 decades, cartel of builders, contractors have ruled. Thackeray's became rich, city got ruined. Gen Next is already here, shutting people down for dissent. That's the brand ideology. FAMILY rule.

I have not written on Bollywood but as former city editor of Bombay Times (pre paid news era) here's my two paisa take on #SSR death and #KanganaRanawat interview.
1: Bollywood is about groups. Journos HAVE to be in these groups, do interviews, get stars for award shows 2: Movies have massive promotion budgets. Too much money rides on big launches. You cannot be on wrong side
3: There is NO journalism. Marketing guys don't like bad reviews. Happy interviews
4: Mid level actor can get a journo sacked for damaging story. Seen it twice

Sixer! Translation - I went to Baramati but was unable to see the sea there! In order to become a BCCI chief, you don't have to be a coach to Tendulkar or Gavaskar. Sharad Pawar is of my father's age. Had my father been alive, he could have been of the same age. 1/2

We won't do anything, but why is Sonu Sood successful in helping migrants leave Mumbai? Failed shayar and equally pathetic editor Sanjay Raut hints at investigation! Sainiks use to do the same, you moron #MigrantLivesMatter
m.lokmat.com/mumbai/coronav… Sainiks in shakhas were lifeline of Mumbai, till power hungry politicians like Raut took over. Shameful

With over 7k #COVIDー19 cases, #Mumbai - the so-called city of dreams is getting badly exposed. Its rulers - @ShivSena has had a tight grip over the megapolis for over 25 years. Here's what they did:
1: Proliferation of slums: Over 60% of city lives in slums. And growing 1/2 Slums are vote banks and extortion points.
2: Not a single new govt hospital - Yes, one trauma centre in Jogeshwari. But no new KEM, JJ, which British left
3: Rampant high-rises in narrow lanes: Phone banking to Matoshree, all rules can be bent. Life is hell 1/3

I'm a former journalist. 22 years in print. Another 6 yrs in PR. Here's my take - The media is independent. Their biggest job is check and balance. Question the govt. Investigate. The aam aadmi is their priority. Hard questioning is key. It is NOT personal. It is professional However, objectivity was lost long ago. It is all about ensuring one man fails. Fake stories, hateful tweets and baised reporting. That's news today. Media does not want regulation. Ok. But self regulation has NOT worked. No one is willing to accept that is the reason for mess

See this moronic letter written by Mah home minister @AnilDeshmukhNCP
The letter questions @narendramodi but is not addressed to anyone! No seal of the home ministry, neither communication no. Rural Mah speaks better Marathi than this fraudulent writer #maharashtralockdown Image HM sources state he has not written any letter. In fact, Deshmukh has admitted that over 50 #TablighiJamat members are not traced in Mumbai. Shouldn't journos tweeting this fake letter should be arrested @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice

Media pundits always say that digital is future. But when I see the conduct and writings of many journos from digital media in India, I feel scared. The latest video of a woman from @thewire_in shows her merely masquerading as a journo. She is a political activist with agenda Maybe she is hired exactly for this. Or maybe there are little checks/references when people come on board in digital. Both scenarios are scary. Bias in writing is open. Objectivity of reportage not needed. And this is future of media envisaged by the founders of @thewire_in

As expected, Libbies are trying hard to turn underworld don Karim Lala into an influential Pathan. Those familiar with Bombay underworld in 70s and 80s should know better. Lala was head of a major Pathan gang with clear territory - a system in which dons demarcated Mumbai Karim Lala operated from Muslim ghettos like Dongri, Nagpada, Bhendi Bazaar & Mohammad Ali Road. Lala had huge influence in Bollywood. The famous Pathan character played by Pran saheb in Zanjeer is loosely based on him. But he was far from that in real life

As a former journalist (23 yrs in media) I have never regretted leaving the profession a single day. Here's why: Throughout my career (print) I saw a fixed match between @INCIndia and media. Journos like me, covering the Right, were always considered intellectually inferior With Congress, no questions were asked.BJP, Sena were untouchable. How can you tolerate these guys? a former editor asked me once. He was uncomfortable in meeting Gopinath Munde who visited our office once. Ditto with Raj Thackeray. I got tired of this bias and left media

The most ridiculous attack on @narendramodi is that he effectively uses image building and PR. As former journalist and now course coordinator of a major communications prog in a South Mumbai institution - I can only laugh - aloud at this stupidity Modi is a PR delight - he understands all media platforms and is willing to experiment. We often discuss his Instagram handle as a case study in the class. For any PR professional, the client needs to be enthusiastic. Modi scores big time
