Dear Thrive Agric subscribers and partners:

By now, you may be aware that payouts for some farm subscriptions are delayed. This is an unfortunate outcome of the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequent restrictions on physical access to farms and farming markets. Like many other businesses, we were not fully prepared for the impact, and despite the intent upon which this company has been run for the last 3 years, our subscribers now bear the brunt of these challenges with us.

We are issuing this statement to convey three things:

This is a tale of shallow wooden bowls, messy hands, and cow legs.

So much Ado about Nkwobi, what is it about this traditional Igbo delicacy that makes it so special? Image Since it's Sunday we decided to share with you a recipe by @Sisi_Yemmie you can follow to make your own Nkwobi and chill at home because of the current restrictions. sisiyemmie.com/2016/03/how-to…

We get asked all the time, how do you guys keep an eye on the local farmer communities you support?

How do you make sense of the whole madness and ensure that the actual yield after the farming cycle matches the projected yield before giving farmers inputs?

Well, here's how. ImageImage After we distribute inputs to farmers, they go ahead and plant.

Keeping an eye on farmers through the cycle is everything, being eagle-eyed about the activities on the farms is the difference between a productive farming season and a ‘let’s just wing it’ one. ImageImage

I have 5 hectares of land in Akure, how can you support me?

I am a poultry farmer in Ibadan, how can I work with you?”

We get a lot of questions like this about joining our community of farmers. Well, this thread is about how we select the farmers and communities we work in. The first thing we do is spot farmer communities to work with and there are a lot of questions that inform our decision.

Questions like, is there a large enough number of farmers and available farming lands?

Can their farmland support optimal yield to meet our output targets?

Nothing warms our heart more than knowing that the lives of our local farmers in our #farmer communities are being impacted positively and transformed for the better.

We’ve got thousands of stories and none of this would happen without you.

Growing up, who else remembers watching the Argungu Fishing Festival for days in @NTANewsNow.

After being paused for 11 years due to insurgencies in the north, the fishing festival happened in 2020!

But how did an elaborate fishing festival come to be? THREAD! ImageImage The Argungu festival started in 1934 in Argungu, Kebbi state.

The emir of Argungu, at the time, Muhammadu Sama, started the festival as a show of respect to entertain the Sultan of Sokoto who was on a peace visit after years of hostility between the two regions. ImageImage

Corn is one of the few grains you can consume in different ways.

What is your favourite way of consuming corn? Corn, botanical name Zea mays is one of the crops with the highest demand in the world. It is classified as the number one grain in the world because it is used extensively as the main source of calories in animal feed and feed formulation. Image

Yayyy! We are back!!!

That was a long time to be locked away from you and in the words of the popular Nigerian philosopher @josh2funny "My God Never Lockdown"

So, this thread is our appreciation post and really a crash course on social media security we learned the hard way. So imagine waking up to an email that says 'your account password has been changed"... you almost swallow your tongue, but maybe maybe, one of the friends at the office forgot the password, but... nobody did! now there's really fire on the mountain.

I mean, where do you start?

Farm mapping is one of the important moving parts of our process.

The first thing we do is ask about the farm history, we ask questions like, how long have you been farming, what are the kind of crops were previously cultivated on the farmland? #Agriculture #ThriveAgric ImageImage After, we check for proximity to water bodies for irrigation, we check the number of tree stands and stumps.

We also digitally map out the coordinates and size of the farmland to see how close it is to the next farmland. Image

Vaccines are extremely important during the poultry production cycle. A good vaccine schedule will determine how successful your poultry project will be.

Here is what our basic vaccine schedule looks like.
#foodsecurity Image When the day-old chicks arrive, they are given the Lasota strain of the Newcastle disease vaccine.

Then on the 10th day after they arrive on a poultry farm, we administer the gumboro vaccine to fight the Infectious bursal disease.

Last year, we were a part of Africa's Business Heroes, Jack Ma's inaugural Africa Netpreneur Prize and answered the big question; what will winning in Agriculture in Africa look like.

The experience was indeed humbling.
#LookingForHeroes #ANPI2019 #JackMa The experience gained from listening to business leaders like @IbukunAwosika @JackMa, Strive Masiyiwa, @joetsai1999 was indeed a learning experience and we couldn’t have wished for better.

It will be an exhausting next few weeks trying to shop for food supplies. We’ve had to ask the hard questions; how can we stretch ourselves to help in these #COVID-19 times?

We've put resources together, and decided to kick off Chicken Deliveries in Abuja, Lagos soon

Retweet 🙏 We will be Starting off with a minimum 5kg chicken deliveries in Abuja and Over the next few days, as we figure the complexities out, we would include other food staples directly from the farms and extend to other cities. Would this be a huge relief for you?

'Wetin I go fit buy tomorrow sef?' this was the keke guy's words who helped us move raw food to the office last night.

The realities of a lockdown is great different for every Nigerian and this calls for concern really.

For the bottom 25%, income comes in little trickles... and most of the time just sufficient for that day, at best a short stretch of days.

We are thinking of subsistent farmers who move produce to local markets and can't afford the instability that is a lock down, and all things between.

These are the ones for which we speak for...

They say some heroes don’t wear capes, the same applies to the hibiscus tea aka Zobo drink.

A lot of the time, people drink it just for the taste
but let us show you how awesome zobo drink is and maybe next time, you’ll be intentional about having a zobo drink.

Issa Thread. ImageImage Zobo drink is made from the extract of Hibiscus flower and no, it isn’t the regular Hibiscus flower you see by the roadside.

If that was the case then, people would hire extra security to protect their gardens.

Happy Sunday FARMily💚💚

How's your Sunday going? On this end, we're reminiscing on the making of The Thrive Agric Documentary and it's oh, so... relaxing ☺️ Image One thing that stood out when we went into the fields to tell our farmers stories was their excitement to share their stories, regardless of the language barrier. From the young farmers to the middle-aged farmers to the very old, the genuity in the 'Na Gode's was priceless.🥺🥰

Hi Good morning, this is a lot where do you we start from... *cracks fingers*

Has the land been developed yet? Yes. This is a 4,000 hectare project in Ajingi and Warawa LGAs of Kano state, we spent the whole of the last quarter of last year collecting farmer information... And mapping out the farms which are available on our ERP platforms used by the farm managers and field supervisors.

This is a purely dry season project, if you are open to meet the farmers and see the prepared land we are using for this, we don't shy away from taking subscribers
