Those of us who have been keeping an eye on so-called “#GCRFs”, and other assorted #transphobes, have noticed that over the course of this year the conspiracy theories that these bigots are spinning out have become more and more convoluted as they seize upon...

more and more fanciful notions trying to explain why, in the UK, trans people exist, get to use single sex services matching our gender identity, and do actually have the protections in law that we do

2/n
The latest concept that’s been stolen, twisted, and shoe-horned into their ever-growing mountain of lies is that of ‘regulatory capture’ – the claim that bodies that are responsible for producing guidelines, or enforcing them or the law have been overtaken...

So, yesterday's anger over @NicolaSturgeon and @S_A_Somerville betrayal of trans people over #GRAReform has crystallised into white-hot fury

Yet again we've seen another Government ignore the voices of the trans community in favour of cis voices who don't have the first...

clue what it's like to be trans and unable to gain easy access to the basic human right of legal recognition via a simple, permissive process

The claim was made that 60% of people supported a self-declaration system for obtaining a GRC, but this is false

2/n
Trans respondents overwhelming supported (from memory >90%) a self-declaration model and, as we are the only people able to obtain a GRC, our voices should have been given weight. Instead the @theSNP decided that cisgender voices should, for some unknown reason, have...

I’m dismayed that a Member of
@ScotParl is clearly so misinformed on the issues surrounding the #GRA consultation

That she’s in a position of significant power to influence others is extremely concerning

I don’t have the platform of Joan McAlpine but refute her statement
🧵 👇🏻
Joan talks about the “David and Goliath” struggle against ‘well funded trans lobby groups’...

Trans people are 0.6-1% of the population. Women are 50%

Who’s Goliath?

The ‘campaign groups’ are also actually CHARITIES - the money they receive is to support LGBT minorities!
I suspect the reason Joan feels like her ‘gender critical’ view on trans issues is like David to Goliath, is because the vast majority of people - including cis women - disagree with it, and are 💯 supportive of transgender equality!

Ok so since the GRA reform proposals has opened a storm of abuse/ misinformation on here I have decided to break down what, if passed, will be happening with the Gender Recognition Act. #GRAreform @scotgp @theSNP @StonewallScot @ROSAZAMBONINI @MhairiBlack @LGBTIScotland @LGBTYS
Disclaimer: I am not a trans person nor am I affiliated with @scotgov What does this mean? I am in no way an expert on the situation but have read and understand the proposed changes.

If we are to have a real 'debate' it needs to be open and honest.

Here we go.
1. On 7th November 2017, the @scotgov issued a consultation on the Gender Recognition Act 2004 (GRA) which closed on the 1st March 2018.

What is the GRA? - The GRA allows a transgender person to change their legally recognised gender.

Myself and countless other women spend so much time answering questions, formulating arguments, linking resources etc.

Here are some questions that I would like to be answered by those who support reforming the GRA.
1/ Why exactly do the Scottish Government want to reform the 2004 Act?
