1/ Launch check list.

Just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone.

Thank you for getting word out & for your preorders for #FounderPuzzles

We crossed our first big milestone yesterday. 105 orders

A thread on the path for that journey, if you plan to follow it one day.

2/ Book launch check list.

Nov 2019 is when we first thought of shipping the book. It had been a work in progress for 4 years.

Prior book launches had taught me the importance of pre-orders.

Step one. Plan to open pre-orders a month before the book will be ready for launch

3/ Enough content to feed you for a month.

Opening up pre-orders isn't enough.

You have to create interest in the book and keep it out there for everyone to see.

Can't be same content shared again and again. Has to be fresh and relevant.

You also have to mix mediums.

4/ Mixing mediums

Short text posts
Long form text post
Simple social posters
Designed social posters
One short teaser video
One mid sized book summary

Need about 60 of these. Half you may never use and will end up saving for future use
#authors #WritingCommunity #writing

5/ Standard themes.

There are some standard themes that you can use for sharing content.

Feedback on candidates for book cover
Cover stories. Context behind the book cover
Chapter summaries
Quotable quotes
Original inspiration
Reviews and reactions
Preface
Order updates

6/ Social placements

My primary haunts are Twitter LinkedIn Facebook.

Here is what we learnt from our campaign.

Facebook is great for impressions + reach
LinkedIn better than FB for reaching professionals
Twitter is best for reaching those you will miss on the first two

7/ Social footprint

From a reach and footprint point of view here are the stats from last 7 days.

Twitter. Network. 2650. Reach 68,400.
LinkedIn. Network. 9100. Reach. 18,900
Facebook. Network. 14,000. Reach. 9,000

7 day reach. 96,300. Clicks. 329. Orders 106

8/ Book order breakdown.

This is why twitter is interesting.

Smallest footprint, network wise
Longest reach
Highest landing page conversion rates
Most orders

Followed by LinkedIn. Followed by Facebook.

9/ YouTube

We saved YouTube for the final push

Your audience gets tired of seeing you everywhere. You do too.

An educational video that summarizes / highlights interesting themes in the book is a welcome change.

The video got the final orders in.

10/ Timing

Timing plays a big role. We got lucky.

Given Covid, there is uncertainty about future employment. Interest in stepping out on one's own.

Startup ecosystem continues to create waves with funding milestones and large raises.

Payment systems are turning over.

11/ Payment choices.

I thought most orders would be for #IBFT transfers. I was wrong.

It is a digital only edition. So COD wasn't offered as a payment option.

Credit or Debit Cards. 61.
IBFT Transfers. 44.

12/ Technology

Didn't have time for anything fancy. Team at work was busy with work.

Google forms for the preorders
Bitly for tracking clicks
Eldest at @HabibUniversity for social posters and covers
Friends and family for editorial input
Students and mentees for social support

13/ Book Launch road map

1. Start early
2. Pre-oders one month before
3. No fancy tech stack
4. Content for a month
5. Twitter, twitter, twitter
6. Mix mediums and channels
