🚨THREAD🚨
I know EXACTLY who needs to hear this, but America's most #Socialist president was #LBJ, not #FDR. No president in US history created more socialist programs for this country, key among them:
#Medicare
#Medicaid
#HeadStart #VotingRightsAct
#CivilRightsAct
#LBJ grew up dirt poor and credited access to public education with his ability to win a congressional seat at 27. His first year in office he DOUBLED the national budget for public education. LBJ also established the plan for the rural hospital system Trump is dismantling.
#LBJ established #NationalPublicRadio in 1967 to make arts and education communication accessible to everyone. He said, "America wants more than a chicken in every pot."
#LBJ's #WarOnPoverty was the single most declarative action by a president in US history since Reconstruction to lift Americans out of poverty and redistribute wealth. So yes--most socialist president. Someone should tell a whole phalanx of alleged socialists to read a book.
#LBJ had been a schoolteacher prior to running for office. He was dedicated to creating the equality he believed education created. The #HeadStart program was credited with helping millions of kids enter elementary school already reading.
Oh and I almost forgot--it was #LBJ who reformed the immigration laws to EXPAND immigration to countries--wait for it--that were not European, so as to BROADEN America's access to the world. 1964 Immigration and Naturalization Act. Yeah-- not just white people. Imagine.
And #LBJ was in office for only 5yrs, not more than 12 like FDR. So while yes, LBJ led us into Vietnam, on balance, what LBJ did for ALL Americans was outstanding. And if you want to hail #socialism in US government, LBJ is the author of that. Not FDR.
