✈️Flying during COVID19 - the numbers
COVID19-figures on aviation are rare.
A thread about (the search for) this data.
We've collected 4.400 flights with at least one contagious(!) person.
Corona spreads its wings… ⬇️🧵
✈️Flying during COVID19 - the numbers
COVID19 & variants spread worldwide, also by aviation.
Despite precautions like PCR- and Antigen-tests.
Why are there no figures?
● Commercial interests?
● Inconvenient? (we want to travel)
● Too difficult?
No... it's not too difficult.
✈️Flying during COVID19 - the numbers
Fortunately, some countries share flights with contagious COVID19-persons, to alert other passengers.
From 5 websites we've collected:
● 4.428 international "affected"-flights
● 962 flightnumbers
● 98 airlines
● 82 countries
Coverage:

How many affected persons per flight?
Hard to tell for the Canada-data. It mentions 3 "rows" around the person.
E.g. an affected person (or group, like a family) is on row 5, the site reports: "Rows 2 to 8".
Often you see several blocks:

Do other sources mention the number of affected persons per flight?
● #Australia: only the rows
● #Norway: no details
but...
● #HongKong: the exact number of affected persons on board can be calculated
E.g. 3 persons on flight CX2780:

Currently #travelbans are discussed.
Is a ban effective?
It depends, some bans can be avoided with a stopover.
With all the extra risks that come along like extra traveltime, tests, hotel, airport.
E.g. India to The Netherlands via stopover

The flights, interactive charts and tables can be found on our website:

With 4.428 flights this table is (I believe) the only open data source with this kind of flight data. The data may be used.
