Live Now

Reproduction Number (Rt) is the average number of new infections generated by one #COVID19 infected individual during entire infectious period

Rt for India is 1

Rt for Himachal Pradesh and Punjab is 1.3, shows an expected increase in daily cases

- @MoHFW_INDIA

Spread of #Covid_19 depends on our nature/actions

We can control the spread of #COVID19 infection

No other person can get infected if an infected person/suspect maintains proper #isolation

Genomic Surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 In India

Indian SARS-CoV-2 #Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) - established to expand Whole Genome Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 across the nation

Presently a network of 28 INSACOG Genome Sequencing Laboratories (IGSLs) is working

-@Director_NCDC

Objective of Genomic Surveillance is to monitor the genomic variations in SARS-CoV-2 on a regular basis by

Early detection of genomic variants of public health implication

To determine the genomic #variants in unusual events/trends

-@Director_NCDC

INSACOG–Prospective Sentinel Surveillance

All States have identified 5 labs and 5 tertiary care hospitals as sentinel sites

277 sentinel sites identified across India

Each sentinel site is required to send 15 samples in a fortnight to designated INSACOG labs

-@Director_NCDC

Variants of concern Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Delta Plus are constantly being monitored

Kappa and B.1.617.3 are being monitored to access public health implications

Total sequenced by INSACOG- 58,240 samples

Pangolin lineage assigned to 48478 samples

-@Director_NCDC

Total 86 cases of #DeltaPlus variant have been reported in the country

34 cases of #DeltaPlus reported in Maharashtra

There has been no exponential increase in the spread of #COVID19 infection due to #DeltaPlus variant so far

-@Director_NCDC

Rapid Response Team to be constituted by Health Department in each State/UT to deal with mutation

In case of new #mutation, RRT would do the
Contact tracing

Epidemiological investigation (number of cases, deaths in the community etc.)

-@Director_NCDC

Herd Immunity in India to be achieved through #vaccination

not by getting #infected
