Some news: In February, the judiciary put 7th Circuit Judge Michael Kanne on its list of upcoming vacancies, with his senior status date as "TBD." Turns out he rescinded his decision to take senior status in May — I spoke with the judge today, and here's what he said: 
Kanne said his decision to take senior status was contingent on a former clerk being nominated to replace him. He declined to name the clerk. He then learned that person was not going to be nominated (he said he didn't know why), and so he told the White House he was staying put
There are no 7th Circuit vacancies right now. Trump has gotten four judges confirmed to the 7th so far: SCOTUS shortlister Judge Amy Coney Barrett, and judges Michael Brennan, Michael Scudder, and Amy S. Eve
Kanne was confirmed under Reagan, so replacing him now wouldn't alter the balance of that court in terms of who was appointed by a Republican v. Democrat president, but it would have been a chance to get another young judge on the bench, which has been a priority for this admin.
I also asked Kanne what he thought about his colleague Judge Barrett potentially getting a Supreme Court nomination — he said he had "mixed emotions" because he'd hate to lose her on the court but thought she'd make a great justice
