Corbyn and Munich-gate: Why is everyone getting the facts wrong? I mean, everyone???
=======>>>>>>>
In 2014 Jeremy Corbyn participated in a memorial ceremony in Tunis in the Palestinian martyrs cemetery. He said he was there to commemorate those killed in Israeli airstrike in 1985, and people "killed by Mossad in 1992"
The 1992 refers to Atef Bseiso, allegedly a Black September operative assassinated in 1992 because of involvement in Munich. Did Corbyn know of his alleged involvement in Munich? It's unclear.
But the wreath was placed on the tomb of Abu Iyad, Salah Khalaf, the Fateh ideologue, Arafat's close advisor, who is also said to be connected to Black Sep. Khalaf may have been responsible for Munich. But he was also involved in pushing the PLO to recognise Israel >>
Read about him in wikipedia. He was a man "who had been instrumental in bringing about the shift of PLO policy toward greater pragmatism", and initiated the PLO-US dialogue.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salah_Kha…
Khalaf was killed together with two advisors in 1991, not by Mossad but by a Palestinian faction, opposed to Fateh. It was a serious blow to Arafat. He's the most senior person buried in the cemetery, with widest tomb, and large plaque, and that appears to be place of the wreath.
Good reasons to think Khalaf was involved in targeting civilians, maybe Munich, and other attacks. Good reasons to think he was fully behind the move towards negotiations and end of the PLO armed struggle. Does it make him worthy of commemoration? your call.
In any case - you want to argue about dead Palestinian militants? It's Salah Khalaf's tomb we're talking about. Not Bseiso. Does it matter? I don't know. Do facts matter anymore?
Postscript: So what does it say about Corbyn?
