1/7 - You got arrested, making today one of the worst days of your life. You think you're innocent, but that doesn't really matter because here you are, sitting behind bars. Things are pretty bad. (Thread)
2/7 - You've been accused of disorderly conduct, so it's not like you murdered someone! Maybe you can fight this thing and win. But you really just wanna go home. You wanna hug your wife and hold your daughter and let them know that you're ok.
3/7 - You wanna go back to work, to find a good lawyer, to figure out how to get back on track. But you can't. You can't do any of those things because you don't have enough money to make bail. Minimum wage doesn't go that far and you've got exactly $18.56 in the bank.
4/7 - So you sit in jail, & while you sit there for going on 6 long weeks, you lost your job, you lost your apartment, & your wife & daughter have to move back in with her mom for a while. You start to lose hope & think about just pleading guilty even though those charges are BS.
5/7 - Meanwhile another guy got arrested at the same protest you did. But his bank account had some more zeroes in it, & he bailed out the very next day. He kept his job, hugged his family, & lawyered up. You're mad at him, but you're even more mad at the system for screwing you.
6/7 - Too bad you don't live in Philly, you'd probably have been home the next day too. You wish Nashville would change, but not just another big building downtown. You want justice, you want equality, and you wanna make sure no one else gets convicted of the crime of being poor.
7/7 - This didn't happen to me - but it could have. And it HAS happened to too many people here in Nashville. I wrote an open letter to @DavidsonCoDA Glenn Funk urging him to end cash bail. Read my letter, and support local leaders working for change.
