<pours a splash of this into a goblet, swirls it around, sniffs, tastes> ah yes, I will take much more of this please and thank you theoutline.com/post/6550/gmor…
this linked article is an even-handed look at the rise of "adulting" as a concept newstatesman.com/politics/uk/20…
And I do understand, as one of those people who will never afford a home, who will be paying off student loans when I qualify for a senior discount, I GET it. I love doing grown-up responsible things, proving to myself that I'm not a child. But I still hate the word "adulting"
I loved the Adulting blog back when it was new, it was like a modern Heloise and KMB is a good writer as I recall. None of this is her fault, I don't think.
Overall, as a person who gets anxiety, I think a lot about the distinction between nursing one's anxieties vs. working to overcome them. Do you really have Phone Anxiety or do you just not feel like talking on the phone? Do I have Social Anxiety or would I just rather not go out?
A lot of my self-reflection can be boiled down to: am I anxious or just lazy?
I've been Depressed. It feels like a bleak howling chasm that you can never climb out of because it stretches in every direction and there is no up. It does not feel like needing someone to tell me to take a drink of water.
I feel like maybe part of the greater danger of ~*~*uWu sELf CaRe*~*~ is a continued blurring of the lines between "not feelin' it today" and "actively looking for ways to die." They're both valid but they're very, very different.
