All those horror films about swarms of insects, spiders, birds etc got it wrong. The real horror is not too much life, but too little. The Road explored that possibility, and it is beginning to look all too plausible.

Here, in my view, is what needs to happen:
This is a global emergency. And with apologies to the farmers responding to these tweets, the way we treat the land and its life has to change radically, and fast. One sector's reluctance to change its practices must not override the survival of our life support systems.
We can no longer afford to let particular industrial interests - especially those of the pesticide industry - defeat the common interests of humanity.
