You can tell so much about a dev by looking at what kind of music they code to 🕵️
Rap or death metal: Brute forces and just makes it work. Deletes lines from webpack config until the build finishes.
Classical: code is poetry. Spends extra time making their code beautiful aesthetically and logically. Very verbose. Often forgets tests.
Indie rock: I bet you write Reason and are stuck on an old Babel config bc you used a stage 1 candidate recommendation
Pop: perpetually pressing pause when doing "hard stuff." Sometimes writes emotional code comments. Nostalgic for jQuery days.
Video game music: You're a downright beast. You write great code, test, and are even good at code reviews. Too bad your team hates you.
Vaporwave: runs a command to change from tabs to spaces on every pull, then changes it back again before making a PR. Fine, I guess
80s: Writes vanilla JS but does every trick in the book to make it look like Java. Started over twice for "maintainability". Hates react.
Musicals: you're precious and I love you. Please stop committing the build output though
Hip hop/R&B: honestly you're pretty great but I wish you'd stop replacing all my logic with nested ternaries and think I won't notice
EDM: excuse me, have you heard of documentation?
Country: honestly I forgot you existed. You're doing great though!!
(I might be procrastinating. Also this is very scientific and should definitely be taken seriously.)
Jazz and folk: best pair programmers in the world but have an existential crisis whenever they try to work solo
Podcast: works and lives in Silicon valley. Thinks the fellow meetup attendees are their friends. Considering moving to management.
