Exactly THREE YEARS since I tweeted this (!!!)

Carrd's grown a lot since then, so I figured I'd share a few thoughts about ...

Scale

When you go from 200 users to 200,000 users you're not simply dealing with "same shit x 1000", you're almost playing an entirely different game with entirely different sets of priorities and challenges
That said, "do things that don't scale" is still excellent advice because if all you did was worry about scale you'd never actually launch anything, and having a product w/a scaling problem is still IMO better than having no product at all
And besides, once you've gone through the process of building, launching, growing and maintaining a product, you'll very quickly grasp what actually needs scaling and, thanks to your experience working on a REAL product, likely already have some practical solutions in mind
In my case here's what I realized needed scaling after 1yr:

- Infrastructure
- Content moderation
- Support

And here's how I scaled them:

- One instance -> many load balanced instances
- Manual moderation -> mostly automated moderation
- 100% email -> mostly docs + some email
Now I'm all for preparedness, but had I worried about implementing all this shit way back when I was still in the planning phases of Carrd, good chance it never would've launched ("omg how am I going to serve that many sites!", "omg how would I support that many users!", etc)
So yeah if you're just starting out, some advice from someone w/3+ years on you:

- Don't panic (doesn't help)

- You'll figure shit out (bc if you've taken the big step to do this you already have the mindset)

- Enjoy the ride (bc it'll be some of the most fun you'll ever have)
PS:

Check out my recent podcast w/@robhope if you just can't get enough of me droning on and on about Carrd/other shit:

PPS:

Guess I should have mentioned what that growth actually looks like so:

1. Tweet below compares numbers from Jan 2019 to Jan 2018 (and 2017/2016 in a reply for more context)

2. Total counts as of right this second: ~300k sites, ~200k users
