This right here. I always say as long as we have a separate and unequal system of education there is no meritocracy in college admissions. But @ClintSmithIII rightfully goes even further. Even families who have every single advantage are determined to buy their way into more.
I think about every white person who has emailed me telling me how they or some other white person they knew got a job or slot in college "taken" from them by some faceless person of color. Shit's always been a lie.
It's also why I tell young POC all the damn time -- if you make it in these elite spaces, NO ONE deserves it more than you. The system is rigged against you. You wouldn't even have had a shot if you didn't work harder, over come more, want it the most. Period.
