Sometimes I get things wrong. My understanding is that DUP MPs in general DO NOT see a return to direct rule in Northern Ireland as a threat, but (in the words of one) as "high time" for it. So when @michaelgove warns direct rule could be the consequence...
of a no-deal Brexit, it's no longer clear to me who he is trying to influence or pressurise. Because senior DUPers seem neither fussed by what he said or any keener than they were to support the PM's Brexit deal.
That said, I have now been told by other DUPers that they do regard what Gove said as an unacceptable threat. Or to put it another way, DUP is as divided on direct rule as most of the UK is on Brexit. Mess everywhere
PS senior member of the government told me this: "direct rule would lead to border poll, would lead to possible United Ireland - break up of Union". In other words screws being properly put on DUP to rule out no deal and back PM's deal
