1) As I said in this tweet, while I usually don't like to give a talk twice, I have the filing since months that it would be kinda useful to give again, but this time with more time to complete it, my "Maximalism Dissected" presentation from BH2018, Riga.
2) The organizers of my talk at the Bitcoin Embassy Switzerland were interested in the topic, so in 2 days I will gladly use this occasion to finally complete my presentation, clarifying some misrepresentations and answering to related questions.
3) Of course, I'll also answer questions about different topics. Like, about what is my secret for looking so really, really, really, ridiculously good looking. Or about why Craig Stephen Wright is a fraud. Or about boating embarrassing secrets, untold truths, boating accidents.
4) I hope to see some of you folks there. The event will be held in Uster (close to Zurich), on Thursday the 9th, starting around 18:00. There will be a recording anyway, but if you stop by you will be able to ask more embarrassing questions. Registration:

5) And now, the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!! This will likely be my LAST maximalist talk. I've been feeling conflicted for many months, and I resolved it's finally time for me to leave this close-minded attitude behind, in order to free myself and to start experimenting with new things.
6) In particular, moving on, I will focus on another, different digital scarce asset. It's called "satoshi" or sat. Way better than bitcoin, which at this point is way too expensive, clearly in an evaluation bubble. I look forward for the parity w/ the USD.
7) FIN. To the moon. Live long and prosper. Remember to brush your teeth (this is not a financial advice about Dentacoin....or...is it?).

Ok. Let's do a little Gedankenexperiment, here.

1) Meet Alice. Alice claims that there's an actual running "debate" between the pioneering proponents of a new kind of perpetual motion machine (based on crystals) & the boring proponents of the "official" thermodynamic theory.
2) Meet Bob. Bob claims there's not such a "debate". Sure: no scientific theory is ever "proven" & we can always have fun w/ philosophical paradoxes (Earth MAY be flat in some convoluted AdS/CFT toy-model). But he promotes a skeptical default: don't buy perpetual motion machines.
3) Now, meet Peter. Peter wants Alice & Bob to "debate". Since Bob would not accept, he first interviews Bob alone, then he starts interviewing Alice, challenging Bob to answer back. Peter claims that doing so he's being "neutral", just "listening to all sides" & "learning".

Please note that criticism 13 is WRONG, at least the way I formulated it. It could be argued that better alternatives to zkSNARKS could exist in the future, making the chosen tradeoff in Zcash obsolete, but that's not the case yet w/ existing alternatives:

Time for a full thread on Nathan Phillips. I do not know whether or not he was a Marine. Without a FOIA, this will not be possible. I do know that his claim that he is a Marine combat vet during Vietnam is false though.
Phillips made very specific claims, although tracking each individual source down is difficult. I will try to collect them here.

Interviewing at a startup can be totally perplexing. Some startups pride themselves in having "no processes", leading to a confusing, inscrutable experience. Don't lose hope! 😕

Here are 4 warning signs that you may want to steer clear of the startup at which you're interiewing:
1) Repeated misfires on communication. This can be anything from the recruiter calling you Cindy when your name is Stacy (a mistake we made with a candidate early in our company) or making an appointment for a chat on the phone and then you never get the call.
People do make mistakes from time to time, but if you've started the process with an initial conversation (doing an informational with a recruiter or member of the team) and then don't hear anything for a long time, it probably means they are not into you. It's ok... move on!
