I am still mad at the character assassination that #GameOfThrones is doing to Daenerys. She was literally freeing slaves for 6 seasons while all of the other characters were fighting each other, sleeping with their brothers, blowing up churches, and she’s the one going mad?
I call this bullshit, #GameOfThrones. Portraying Dany as someone who doesn’t listen to advice is non-sensical. She lost two of her dragons, half of her army and most of her allies because she fought for a North that doesn’t like her, and listened to Tyrion’s ill-advice.
And to make things worse, now after 8 seasons AND with Cersei as queen, you want to raise Dany’s gender as an issue in her “electability” as queen? What is this, the 2020 election? Right as she loses her best friend and one of her dragons? Is she not allowed to be angry?
This whole policing of a woman’s emotion and calling her mad if she dares to deviate from the norm that she is supposed to limit herself to is bullshit. Even more, it’s just very poor plotting. Daenerys going mad is as non-sensical as Jon Snow suddenly becoming wise.
Speaking of Jon Snow, it infuriates me how blatantly obvious the show runners are in how much they prefer him over Dany. Remember when, a couple of seasons ago, he literally hung an insubordinate Night’s Watch member? He wasn’t mad, he was just smart.
Meanwhile, if it hadn’t been for Dany, her dragons and her army, the North would have been massacred in the Battle of Winterfell, and not even Arya could have saved them. Flash forward an episode, and here we are with everyone paying Dany dust and saying she’s unfit.
We all spent 7 seasons rooting for this character only for them to try and dismantle everything in 3 episodes, pretending as if it’s been foreshadowed before. And that, frankly, is bullshit.
As #GameOfThrones reaches its end, it shows us two things: women characters - despite how well they might be fleshed out - will almost never be as important as less interesting male counterparts. And women (or rather General characters) of color are at an even worse disadvantage.
Bref, I am mad that my favorite character is now being disposed of because it makes for an easier ending for the show runners. There’s a reason she has - and always will be - the most vital part of that show. The mother of dragons lives on. #Dracarys.
